Re: 2023 ACF Winter Discussion
I negged the psychology tossup on "prisoners" with "religious people" because of the Good Friday experiment. I was a bit salty, but It is just a skill issue since the Good Friday experiment took place in Boston, not Concord. Maybe Concord can be dropped before Timothy Leary to pr...

Re: Maintaining Player Privacy during the Registration Process
It seem to me that there are three issues here, TDs sending out logistic emails, talking to free agents about potentially teaming up, and the misuse of the informations by the TDs. The first one is easily solved by simply using bcc to send the logistic emails as mentioned in the original post. I thi...

Re: Wider camera requirements for online quiz bowl
I’d argue that it is much easier to enforce a camera pointed at a screen than a raised hand. This is very difficult for people who only use laptop(s) like me. I suppose you can join the zoom/discord call with a phone then point its camera at a screen. I would also argue that in the case where the c...

Obviously people who are gonna cheat will find a way to cheat even with a web-cam pointing at their face. There is nothing you can do to make remote mirrors as cheating-proof as in person events. Directing bonus answers in Discord tournaments
I am happy that we got to play bonus questions for the Workshop mirror on Saturday, specially because of the strict policy of giving an answer within 5 seconds which sped up the tournament by a lot. But there were confusions about directing answers in bonuses that I've observed. In real life tournam...

Free Zoom would actually work fine if people wanted to do a tournament by video. The 40 minute limit is not a big deal because you can do one session after another. Does the timer for the 40 minutes limit counts all the waiting time in between rounds? Even if it doesn't, quizbowl rounds can easily ...

Would this require some changes at the level of the college/department as well? First of all, an important fact here is that the teams involved are New College and UF B, not UCF. Also, the TD might have made a mistake, but I think it is unfair to say that he “shouldn’t be running a meaningful tournament for awhile.” If ACF had a clear guideline for situations like this one, at ...
