Re: NY/NJ/CT/PA/DE Discussion '18-19

I should say that Hunter still hasn't played with a full team yet on either NAQT or a housewrite (especially relevant to Columbia, where in addition to missing Asher, our science/rmp/ss player, I only played 5 tossups the whole morning). That being said, Ithaca was really good at Columbia, and I reg...

I should say that my post was merely an observation about the teams that were at MIT Fall, by no means a ranking of all teams in the region

Re: New England Discussion '18-'19

I'm also intrigued by MIT Fall, played on IS-177 (partially since A sets like PAQT and FAcT, being much more favorable towards breadth over depth, are not very indicative of general success). At MIT Fall, Daniel from Barrington and Alex from Troy did extremely well as individuals, and Barrington, Le...

Looks like a good list to me! But since you can only rank 1 team in the poll, I would assume that the B teams should be left out?

Prison Bowl XII Mirrors

Hello all, Prison Bowl XII will be premiered at Hunter on March 23rd, 2019, and we are expecting that the set may be ready for mirrors by mid-March 2019. The set is a normal Prison Bowl (reg+/nats-) and will be written entirely by members of Hunter Quiz Bowl as of now (this may change if deemed nece...

It seems like once again, our region has lost a huge number of great players. Just off the top of my head, the region graduated Doug of High Tech, Vishwa of Downingtown STEM, Alex of Lehigh Valley, the entire A team besides me + half of the B team from Hunter, St. Joseph's top scorers, Max Shatan of...

Re: HSNCT-only predictions

I love this idea! I personally identify myself as an HSNCT player, and I've had thoughts about this for a while. Very small point: Different tournaments play on different rules; some play timed, while others (like pretty much all tournaments near NYC, for example) play 20 tossups all the time, which...

History Bee Playoffs Format at Nationals

Alright, I'm expecting to get a lot of flak, but I have been ruminating on this for 2 years, since it was first implemented, so here goes. The upcoming NHBB national tournament has reminded me of one of the aspects of the tournament that I take some issue with: the playoff format for individual even...

Out of curiosity, at which tournament did North Gwinnett get their 26.39 aPPB? I'm not doubting it; it's just that the posted stats for almost all of their tournaments don't have calculated PPBs that I could find, and I was trying to find information on them.

On the positive side, I do see at least 8 NYC schools attending the New York City NHBB regional, along with one more that participates in NHBB which I know just happens not to be there. Not sure how they do outreach, but it seems to work! And of course there are several more schools that don't do NH...

Just to point out, my teams got to 121st place because: 1. I played in only around half the tournaments that Hunter B played. 2. Hunter B always has horrible PPBs (and, to some extent, variable performance) because we aren't a set team; we are just whoever shows up for a given tournament, so we don'...

Because Eshaan went 2-4 in in his other prelim games at PACE and ended up in 59th at PACE and 98th at HSNCT. While it was very, very impressive, a single win doesn't by itself bump him up that many places.

I'm going to be a bit more cautious here and say that I have a history of severe inconsistency in the regular season, especially on housewrites, so I think we'll have some trouble on those, as has been said. As for leadership, I can't really comment on that, since as of now, I'm neither the captain ...
