Re: PRINT I at Princeton University [PSACA 2 - Novice] [12/15/2018]

Congratulations to Lenape Regional A, who won the tournament after 10 rounds and a final, going 10-1, and winning that close final against the only team that managed to beat them, East Brunswick A. We hope the teams had a great time! Here are the overall stats. For any teams that couldn't make it, w...

Re: PRINT I at Princeton University [PSACA 2 - Novice] [12/15/2018]

So this tournament will be happening next weekend. We had an eight team field, but our 8th team appears to be on the verge of dropping. If you were on the fence about coming to this event, please email me ASAP and let me know if you're still interested. Again, the rules above still apply, but I woul...

Re: PHSAT XXVI at Princeton University (9/29/18)

I've fixed all the stat mistakes, but I'm having trouble getting SQBS to organize all the teams by the divisions we had in place for the playoffs in the competitive bracket. I'll take another crack at SQBS tomorrow and then upload them. Thank you all for your patience. Also, if you have any last sta...

Re: PHSAT XXVI at Princeton University (9/29/18)

Congratulations to our champion Hunter College HS A who won the competitive division outright after an 11 round tournament. Our runner-up was Wilmington Charter. In the standard division, High Tech D went undefeated and won the tournament after a nine round, round robin tournament. Our runner-up was...

Re: PHSAT XXVI at Princeton University (9/29/18)

So I neglected to mention this at the opening meeting this morning:

PHSAT XXVI is PACE platinum certified! The top 6 teams in competitive division should receive invitations to PACE via their placement. More to come on this after the tournament concludes.

Re: PHSAT XXVI at Princeton University (9/29/18)

Last year, I believe the Frist Center was used for the lower bracket's preliminary games, and then switched for the playoffs to the competitive playoffs. This year, teams should expect to be in the same building for both preliminary and playoff rounds. I can also now say that we are officially using...

PHSAT XXVI at Princeton University (9/29/18)

The Princeton University Quiz Bowl club is pleased to (finally!) announce that Princeton High School Academic Tournament (PHSAT) XXVI will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018. We intend to use an NAQT IS set, as we have done in the past. The tournament will be structured as a series of bracke...

As it stands now, Princeton University will be tentatively holding PHSAT XXVI on September 29th, 2018, and will also be tentatively holding an as-of-yet unnamed novice tournament on December 8th, 2018. This novice tournament will likely be exclusively for high schools in New Jersey, and will carry e...

Re: NJ Date Claims 2018-19

Note that the splitting of the NY/NJ field posts is for the following reason: This has been discussed before, but it may be time to start thinking about splitting the NJ and NY circuits (i.e. running mirrors of the same set in both states). This could allow for greater outreach on both sides of the ...

Re: What is the most pressing concern in college quizbowl to

Have you considered not reserving rooms on behalf of NHBB if they continue to run bad tournaments? It seems like they are reflecting badly on your club, even if you aren't associated with them. Basically, NHBB could reserve rooms anyway without us helping (and since David Madden is an alum '00 of P...

Re: What is the most pressing concern in college quizbowl to

This might be a quick tangent, but I cannot agree more with this. I can't speak for the entire country, but over the last four years, I have seen a precipitous decline in the quality in college-led tournaments in our area (PHSAT, the NHBB A set usually hosted at Princeton, and especially the Columb...

To be clear, I don't think powers are unfair, but they do play a role in the game's outcome in my opinion, just as negs do. That doesn't make them good or bad, just a note that if you're going to have powers, you have to place them carefully because they are important. That's true, sorry for misrep...

Re: ACF and Powers

I have no opinion on powers. I think they're fun and I wouldn't mind if quizbowl had them or didn't. I do question the assertion that powers play no role in affecting the outcome of games. In a 20 tossup packet, that's potentially 100 points in swing involving powers. This is certainly possible, bu...

In retrospect, and in response to Mike, I'll say that it might make more sense for a "DII" division to exist. I should mention though that one bonus erroneously referred to Victor Hugo as the author of t...
