TRASHionals - Call for Teammates

Thanks to both of my TRASHionals teammates doing something silly like getting invitations to try out for Jeopardy! (Who does that, anyway?), I am now left searching for new teammates for TRASHionals. If you're interested, contact me at andy -at- andysthoughts -dot- com. I also have plenty of hotel r...

How's this for a bad mod job: - started out reading too quietly - after being asked to speak up, moderator overexaggerated request and became very loud and very slow - openly mocked the player that had made the "speak up" request playing in the game during said game - refused to give a lat...

Okay, it's been 3 weeks now since the SCT, are we ever going to see individual stats from the Northeast SCT?

As if people will vote for Ottawa, but... Assuming the drive gets arranged, the NAQT team will be: Tamara Vardomskaya Dan Barber Philippe Marchand (and possibly one more undergrad) The McGill team should be the same that went to the 2005 ICT in D2. I have no idea if Queen's, SFU, and UBC are taking...

I actually think that the Full House question had the worst lead in of the set - "Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron," at which point at least six of the seven people playing that round (I was scorekeeping during a bye) tried to buzz in. I also agree on this one. After getting the tossup a...

I too second the call for examples. There are obviously players who upped their power numbers quite a bit (I count myself as one, going from 1 in 12 rounds to 16 in 15 rounds), but I don't know of any teams with the exact team composition from last year. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong sectionals re...

The packet also didn't run out on either of our D2 teams. Examining the stats, they frequently heard 18-21 tossups, though they did have some incidents of 13 or 15 (and I see another game in D2 which only got to 12). How on earth is it humanly possible to get through only 12 cycles in 18 minutes? I...

I don't know if any of the changes you all attribute to NAQT's writing style is a response to statistical trends that they want to see occur. If anyone has that much free time (I feel like I'm throwing meat to lions placed on a vegetarian diet), is there a way to link "good style" with st...

I also was of the impression that there were some very generous powers, especially in Division 2...as will almost certainly be shown when the Division 2 stats come out and show me as having 22 powers in 14 games.

Other than that, I had no real qualms with the packet set...

I know that Ben Smith up in Ottawa made a big deal about having used one of the Windows emulators (I can't remember which one specifically; I've never used a Mac and don't particularly intend to) in order to use SQBS...so that might be an option, I'm not sure.

I'm not sure who Michigan sent out to Rochester in September, but losing 330-155 to a one-person (Canadian) team at that tournament doesn't bode too well for them, I think...

I just read a few of the packets. Tip to writers: Wikipedia is not a good source for anything, but especially not for quizbowl questions. Even if it was, do not write your WHOLE packet out of Wikipedia, as it appears some teams did. Even if you do that, don't directly plagiarize choice phrases. And...

Here are my thoughts based on my experiences with the Great Lakes tournament: As a player looking at the ACF Fall questions, I was pleased with the packet set. While there were a large number of items I would not have any idea on early on, the questions were accessible enough so that people with &qu...
