Re: 2010 National Tournament of Academic Excellence
Just out of curiosity Kay, where was it posted on the Polk County web site that the tournament had no funding? I haven't been able to find the quoted statement from your post, but that's probably because their search function isn't very friendly. I'm curious because I just got an email from another...

Re: 2008 Panasonic Academic Challenge: Illinois wins!
I'm not sure if anyone else has already noticed this and posted about it...but the official PAC website now refers to the tournament as "The National Tournament of Academic Excellence (formerly known as the Panasonic Academic Challenge)." They have reverted to their old name, so I guess Pa...

The Gulf Coast Academic Invitiational Tournament was held at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida on Saturday, February 2, 2008. The field consisted of 14 teams from 11 different schools in Florida and Alabama. The tournament was run in the PACE format and used PACE-style questions. ...

I, for one, would simply love for there to be more tournaments in Florida. I know Florida State and UF run tournaments, and I know that more than 4 high school teams exist in the state. So why not have more tournaments hosted by high schools? I can provide questions--let me know if there's anything...

Pensacola is an interesting story. I've never thought they were all that impressive until I saw them play in playoffs and finals. I particularly remember them decimating a decent team (Eastside A) in the finals at the FSU Fall Tournament, with something ridiculous like 8 out of the first 10 tossups...

Re: Well, We all Know...
We all know that Panasonic rules and regulations are ridiculous and unfair. For instance, apparently if one team rings in but another team answers (with the correct answer, though incorrect might count too, haven't checked), the question is thrown out regardless of whether the first team had the co...

Fllorida people: If I'm not mistaken, there are several Florida universities that host tournaments. Bug your coaches to check these out! But budgets might be a factor; this is why many Illinois tams don't travel. Well, I know that quite a few teams in the Panhandle go to the FSU and UF tournaments,...

Now, from everything I see on this board, it seems like we (Florida) are generally absent from the world of quizbowl outside of PAC. Am I seeing things wrong? If I'm not, why is that? No, you're right. I'm not sure why...maybe teams that know about outside tournaments don't go because they're not u...

Where's the love for Florida schools? I predict Pensacola and Ransom Everglades to make it to the playoffs. Unfortunately, I have absolutely zero data on any of the three Florida schools. Pensacola got into the playoffs last year but lost some of their firepower from that team, so even having no da...

My state's team is made of the best players from a tournament that is the same style as PAC. We know. You've told us already. And this contributes to the discussion how? I'm thinking she's trying to put up a case for her team winning PAC. However, the logic behind her argument can be tested by look...

There are parts of what people have said that I agree with, most notably when Chris says that PAC is not quiz bowl. BUT, (I've only started playing the format this year, and I've never been to the tournament itself) they don't claim to be quiz bowl. Once you think of it as a academic tournament, on...

There certainly is a problem with the tournament style. It doesn't truly allow for teams with deep knowledge of a subject to show their understanding because its structure is designed for buzzer racing. No, I must disagree. The PAC tournament is structured with three rounds: a 5-, 10-, and 15-point...

competition schedule
Looks like the PAC competition schedule is up.

Room of Death this year? Nothing really jumps out at me. "Fantasia KL" in Round 2 looks pretty competitive, considering those teams' past performances.
