Re: Michigan 07-08
I think that part of the problem is in the infrastructure of Michigan quiz bowl. It is hard for teams to travel out of state because the Atlantic Seaboard is really far away (almost out of driving range), money is limited, and the tournaments that are out of state that the top teams attend (aka Culv...

I am a fan of computational math questions. I think that they do reflect a skill necessary in the real world and are therefore justified, but at a rate of approximately 1 per set, not 2 or 3 as has been seen before. However, I will admit that I am biased in their favor as I tend to do really well on...

I think that we (East Lansing) got lucky in the divisions. State College, Styvesant, and Garfield Heights are solid, but the other divisons are all significantly harder. The only problem is that there are a whole bunch of teams that weren't at Chicago, so there's always the chance that one of them t...

Yeah. Becuase it was ruled a neg and Dorman got 30 on the replacement bonus, the swing would have been 85 points, enough for them to win. It was weird, though, because at the end of the question the mod stopped the clock and chose not to read the last two words, maybe because they had the word 'perf...

I agree up to the point where you say that mediocre teams can average 22 or 23 ppb in IS. Admittedly there are many easy thirties, but the variety of topics in the questions asked requires if only list memorization in many different fields. I think that the difference between 25 or 26 ppb and 22 or ...

Reading the posts from the William and Mary tournament, their bonus conversion seems to be in the mid-20s for the top teams as well, considering that Maggie Walker's 25 PPB in the playoff round was called spectacular compared to conversion in the prelims. The only team that I am unsure about is DCC,...

I agree that outside of Troy, DCC, Novi, and East Lansing (my team) the state this year is not so good. We have competed only locally so far this year, so we haven't really seen much of the other good teams. I wasn't at the DCC tournament (neither was our 2nd best player), so there we only took 4th,...
