I just don't think I should have to learn the in's and out's of the Bible, a book from a religion I don't subscribe to, to be a good quizbowler. Who's says you need to read the Bible itself? Pick up Britannica and read about major books and figures from the Bible. Even doing that you should be able...

This is understandable because it seems to me that the average college student would be more likely to take classes in one of the more established scientific fields like chemistry, biology, or physics rather than computer science to fulfill whatever the general education requirement for what the st...

The only way I can see cancellations being a huge issue is if people just don't show. Even emailing the night before or calling the day of (if its afternoon registration) isnt bad, because it only really takes 10 minutes or so to adjust those schedules. But if 5 teams decided just not to show, then ...

Dwight Kidder is good, but I would have to include R. Hentzel and Eric Hilleman-who are simply awesome readers. I recall someone mentioning that in the 2004 ICT finals, R. got through 16 questions in the first half (or something like that). I do remember the pack finishing with about 2 minutes on th...

Urban Meyer Invitational Trash Tournament
The University of Florida is very pleased to announce the Urban Meyer Invitational on Sunday, January 15th 2006. This is the day after the non-trash Sunshine State Invitational at UF on MLK Weekend. The tournament will be a packet-submission tournament (any playoff rounds will be written by UF) and ...

Sunshine State Invitational
On January 14, 2006, in sunny Gainesville, Florida, the 17th Sunshine State Invitational will be held. It will be ACF-style with power tossups, and questions will be written in-house by the University of Florida College Bowl team, so packet submission is not necessary. However, if you would like to ...

I'd never try and run a tournament opposite a football game in Gainesville- hotels would be impossible to come by and the campus would be flooded with people and cars. In 2004 I unwittingly scheduled our spring high school tournament against the NHRA Gatornationals and several teams had problems get...

As Eric Smith was asking at the tournament, can anything be done about this? Has anyone ever tried to do anything about this? I've thought about this before, and come to the conclusion that if there's going to be a change, it has to come from the inside of CBI. Based on the things you mention and f...

There were eight in the championship bracket- the results from last year's NAQT nationals seem to support that.

I'm not saying that only people who like NAQT can complain about NAQT but you lose your personal credibility when you complain about virtually every tournament under the sun or by the sea- something that all the NAQT champions HAVEN't done. As for the distribution thing it's beginning to look circul...

A question in which almost everyone knew the answer was either Sacco or Vanzetti at or before the FTP prompt and was waiting for the giveaway clue of either 'Sacco' or 'Vanzetti' (the latter of which actually appeared as the giveaway; this was a larger buzzer race than the 'John Paul II' question)....

Lots of early buzzes, but primarily because questions had very poor lead ins. The first two playoff packets were hideous...hoses and such which were complicated by the fact that they were egregious buzzer races. Plenty o' repeats- Richard III came up three times and there were other things which ind...

18 teams actually showed up. It was fine until shortly before lunch when the snow started to come down. The UF folks had no problem with the snow- probably because the novelty is there.... Anyway, with the 18 there were two brackets of 9 and then the top three in each played each other and so forth ...

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that while you may have given your best players (now on the B team) an easy road to the playoffs, you've also offered up your second team (now A) to the slaughter in the tougher division. While I don't think there's a problem with a school doing this for a tou...

I have to respectfully disagree with your proposal Angelo. I think that instead of increasing the number of Division I players, your suggestion would simply drive alot of people out once they used up their Division II eligibility. Especially when they were staring down the prospect of probably not g...
