Britannica's Battle of the Brains

As a part of my research, I was reading through old copies of the Encyclopædia Britannica 's employee newsletter, and I found a reference to a buzzer-based team quiz competition that they sponsored called the "Battle of the Brains". The first one was held in 1988 (or possibly 1987) and was...

Re: Specific Question and Errata

I think the clue in the Twist tossup (packet 1) about the Hairspray song misattributes the line to Tracy. It's actually Penny who sings it.

Re: Quizbowl by Radio

I'm sure there's much more to dig up than what's publicly available on Google. On that note, I would encourage people who are interested in this topic to look and see whether there are any relevant materials in their university's archives/special collections department. I was able to find a few thi...

Re: CMST: Errata

The tossup on "National Security Council" calls it an "agency" throughout. That seems misleading, at best, though admittedly I'd be hard-pressed to think of a good filler word that doesn't immediately give the game away. Yes, I thought for a while about the best word to use here...

Re: CMST: Errata

Can I see the bonus on Cultural Revolutions? One of the dates sounded wrong but I could've misheard. 14. Sheila Fitzpatrick argued that events like the Shakhty Trial and the activities of groups like RAPP contributed to one of these events which took place in the Soviet Union from 1928–1931. For 10...

Re: Question-Specific Discussion

The tossup on The History of the Peloponnesian War probably should have been written as one on "Thucydides" instead given the large number of titles under which the book has been published. I was negged for saying "Thucydides" followed by "Thucydides' History" even thou...
