Re: VCU Open @ Berkeley (Aug 8)

I'll be in the area, but haven't done anything quizbowl related in a few months. Let me know if your team needs a fourth!

Re: ACFNATIONALS - A JRPG tournament

Wanted to throw in my appreciation for the tournament as someone on a lower team. Unfortunately at that point of the day, I was exhausted, and asked to retire before playoffs. I had fun meeting everyone and playing the well written questions! The audio packet was also awesome. A formal trash music I...

Re: ACFNATIONALS - A JRPG tournament

I'm very very bad at trash tossups but this looks fun. I'd be down to play or read.

Re: ACF Fall 2014 @ UT Austin (Nov 8)

Alright, thanks to everyone who came! Despite the myriad logistical issues, which included teams showing up late, staffers bailing at the last minute, and miscommunication about which teams' packets were used, the tournament only ran about an hour late. A huge thanks to all the scorekeepers who step...

Re: 2014 HSNCT discussion

I'm most eager to know how the ocarina tossup I wrote went over. I thought it was a great idea, although I completely zoned out when I heard "this instrument". I began paying attention when I heard the name "Saria" and buzzed soon afterwards. Can I see the tossup? I'd like to re...

Re: 2014 PACE NSC Questions Discussion

I thought the tossup on bits was really inventive, but I wasn't sure what a few of the things were referring to. Could I please see the tossup?

Re: quizbowl and technology: a proposal

In order to avoid building a massive, unmaintainable nightmare, I think we should split this project into three different parts: - Question Writing Manager (pre tournament | should handle both packet submission and in-house tournament writing systems) - Tournament Manager (pre/during tournament | st...

Re: quizbowl and technology: a proposal

At LASA, we've forked Jerry's QBDB and have been building off of it for an archive. As of right now, it's not polished enough for release but so far we have around 25 college regular difficulty and below tournaments, some basic search functionality, and a random packet generator. Before we release, ...

Re: Books "for Quizbowl"

Somewhat related to the discussion on the Eddas...I just finished the Kojiki and would NOT recommend it for help in learning Japanese myth, at least the edition that I checked out from the library (tr. Philippi, 1968). . I whole-heartedly agree with this, and want to add that the Nihongi is exactly...

Re: subject binders

I do this to study and it works fairly well. However, I just have several word documents saved on the thumb drive that I carry around with me. They're all backed up, of course, and have been helpful. Ha, wow... and you're not even in high school yet officially. LASA's going to be pretty darn good f...
