Re: Trash Side Events Weekend at Purdue -- July 6/7, 2019

We could just do FOGEY as the main event on Saturday and try to run as many shootout things after that, and then for those who are sticking around, do BIG DOG and remaining shootouts on Sunday. Or drop BIG DOG (which require a lot of work) and try to do everything on Saturday. I'm fine doing this, b...

The submission dates are on Saturday--we're probably shooting to turn our packet in on Sunday--would this still fall under the Saturday submission date (I ask because both Regionals and Nationals set submission cutoff dates on the end of Sunday)?

12 would seem really optimistic seeing as how only 8 people said they were able to come on the poll. Maybe like 8-10 plus Purdue people? I guess I don't know how much getting rooms costs. We could also scale back to one day.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I think events like this in some way are some of the purest form of quizbowl. No buzzers, no sleep, people sitting around a room from midnight to 1 AM, trying to answer increasingly harder and more obscure questions.

I have a packet of about 20+ tossups about the greatest team in MLB history, the New York Mets (wait, did I say greatest? I meant worst.). At this point, I think I might like a later August event just to provide some distance from the UIUC one and Chicago Open, but I also realize that as you get more into August, you start conflicting more with school/classes.

If I do go, I would try to do a guerrilla trash event.

At the risk of perhaps being presumptive, it seems that:

1. The most popular choice by a significant margin is the July date.

2. Based on the reluctance to just make this in July and some of the comments in this thread, the UIUC people would prefer August.

I have no opinion on these two dates. By that August date, you're probably tripping up a fair number of folks who are going back to school and who have already started classes, I would guess. On the other hand, you're correct that there's a stronger chance the sets will be done by August.
