Re: What is a collegiate nationals middle part?

Something that I have always found interesting is how different the community's answer to this question is at the high school level versus the college level. It seems as if the community believes that, relative to their respective sets, high school teams should perform significantly better at natio...

Re: Why don't we have 1/1 math?

High school quizbowl should have 0/0 computational math and 1/1 non-computational math. Seriously, comp math sucks and is impossible to make pyramidal. Stop including it in otherwise excellent tournaments, people who do so! I should have been clearer in my original post. I am not calling for comput...

Why don't we have 1/1 math?

There is already a thread on this topic in the collegiate section, but I don't think that the arguments and/or possibly the conclusion are the same for high school quizbowl. A little historical background: Back before 2000, high school quizbowl was a much more regional activity. Instead of the curr...

One more thing that I didn't say earlier is that if you are looking at percentages the goal probably should be adjusted based on the level and number of questions you are writing. Re: Remember the '90s?

I don't know much about the college side of things, but I'll try to address some high school stuff. Even with high school stuff, I'll focus on Illinois, since high school quizbowl was much more regional then than it is now. I played a tiny bit of quizbowl in the 1980s--a high school tournament at St...

As long as we're remembering the 2011 NSC: Some of the Ben Cooper Young Ambassador recipients were doing the "Death March of Quizbowl" when their award was announced, so they had to be given the award later. The packets had no tiebreaker questions, and some of the buildings with matches did not have...

Re: AMA about the 2011 NSC & the evolution of PACE

If I remember correctly, PAC (or Panasonics or NTAE) did not have any trash, and that predated NSC. (I'm not going to get into all the crazy stuff PAC did have, because that's another story.) Also, there probably were some state organizations that did not have trash--while IHSA has always had a Misc...

While he never did anything at the national level or, as far as I know, in college, Sammy Gelfand was a serious player in high school at the local level.
