Props to the Maryland team for running this in a timely manner. The set was also quite entertaining.

Re: Is there a space between "quiz" and "bowl"?

I use "quizbowl" as an adjective and "quiz bowl" as a noun. This site is the Quizbowl Resource Center. I played quiz bowl.

This would seem to address both the Rose Bowl and "two-word adjectives are awkward" grammatical arguments.

Textbooks for APUSH are the best way to go. If you don't have the time for this, then a Barron's or similar review guide can give you a solid overview. You can definitely earn a lot of points by learning presidential elections; I'd start with the often-tossed-up ones like 1860, 1872, 1912, etc.

Re: Pennsylvania Dates 2013-2014

Has there been any talk of a Pennsylvania NASAT team? Missy Doll and I discussed this at some point a few months ago. Basically, the conclusion was that there weren't feasible ways to hold a tryout accessible to the whole state It would be hard to get everyone together, especially given that the on...

Re: Quiz Bowl: The Esoteric Subjects, Deportment, et al

I agree completely with your thoughts on quizbowl sportsmanship. With regard to World Lit and more obscure RMP topics, I agree that their distributions should be reduced in regular-season sets relative to Nationals, but I'm not sure by how much. Since the amount of this material that students are ex...

Re: Your "real" A-team

If standings replaced the current rankings system, I certainly think teams would try to do well in them and trumpet their rank, more so than they do now. This is because standings are more concrete than rankings, which are estimates of a team's "full strength". To me, "full strength&q...

Lobby does have merit . . . To be sure, it's absolutely nuts at times, and has attracted many less-than-ideal users, but there's certainly a not-so-very fine line between saying the app harbors hate speech and is bound to give the quizbowl community a bad rap and feeding and/or joining the trolls. ...

The lobby is terrible... I've found it valuable simply because I can get a continuous stream of science, instead of having to open a new packet every 4 questions. 2) Insofar as powering questions is a strategic choice, that choice should absolutely be taken into account in seeding and ranking teams. I think powers (if they have to be used at all in seeding) should only be taken into account in the form of power/neg ratio. Otherwise, a team with average knowl...

Re: Which tiebreaker: PPG or PPB?

I have always thought PPB and then # of Powers should be the tiebreaker. PPB because it is often considered to be the standard in determining team ranking, etc. To me it just seems more optimal because it is not strength of competition based. If the PPB is close though then # of Powers should be us...
