Re: Harvard Fall Tournament IX Available For Mirrors

I'm unsure if this is the proper place to ask this, but did last year's HFT ever get posted?

Re: Specific Question Discussion

Could I see the tossup on Hildegard von Bingen? While listening, I thought that Ordo Virtutum was dropped too early, but it could have just been my shock that she would ever come up.

Re: Specific Question Discussion

The lead-in to the Uffizi Gallery tossup was in my opinion a big hose. It led to both my team and Saratoga buzzer racing to an incorrect answer.

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?

With nationals approaching soon, I’d like to somewhat revive this thread with some of my own opinions of teams in the region. This year's crop of teams has been one of the deepest in a number of years, and arguably one of the strongest, if not the strongest, region this year. With 11 top 100 teams i...

Re: General Set Discussion

Having played this set today, I must say I'm disappointed. I understood that there were reservations about the quality of this set, but at the least I expected a coherent set that overshot its target difficulty and whose problems mainly stemmed from writing inexperience. After playing it, I've concl...

Will this set be posted on the database or are there still more mirrors?

Re: HERMES Question-Specific Discussion

I have a few comments on specific questions in the set. For one, the Whistler tossup name dropped the "Peacock Room" in the first line without, if I recall correctly, describing it. Even if it did, I still feel that name dropping something as famous as that in the first line was somewhat n...

Re: HERMES Question-Specific Discussion

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post it in, but since there isn't a general discussion forum, I'll just post my thoughts here. Overall, I really liked this set, probably my favorite set of the year. I think it did well in following its advertised harder than regular difficulty with answ...

Richard Montgomery is also listed as having answered 21 tossups in one prelim game also.

Re: It's Academic discussion

I cannot speak for them, but George Mason had been active in the Quizbowl circuit even up to last year, but I have not seen them appear in any non-VHSL tournament this year, which is particularly unfortunate, considering that they would be able to compete fairly well in non-VHSL tournaments if they ...

Re: It's Academic discussion

Just look at schools like B-CC and Whitman that have stopped going to tournaments, instead only appearing on the show. This happened after a period of relevance on the circuit. After people graduated, they basically stopped going to good tournaments. If the MD/DC area had a more stable circuit, one...

Re: A Richard Montgomery BELLOCO Mirror 3/29/14 (Rockville,

First I would like to congratulate Richard Montgomery for running this tournament well. It was great to go against teams that I had never had the opportunity of playing before, and for the majority were nice people. However, about this controversy that has arisen the day after the tournament, I impl...
