Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: NAQT Region 6 SCT @ NGCSU (Feb 6, 2010)

I'd also like to thank Robin and the NGCSU staff for running an excellent tournament. I, too, thought the gift certificates were a brilliant idea.

It appears to have certain similarities with high school LD debate.

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!

Just so everyone is aware, the host school for NCT had to provide most of the perks like free meals, goodies, and the like. One of College Bowl's coordinators talked very briefly to us about hosting nationals at the airport on the way back from NCT '07, and mentioned that hosting CBI, instead of be...

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!

Nonetheless, costs could not be scaled down with the size of the national field because College Bowl was still bound to hold RCTs for every region (whatever way they could) and to hold its most expensive event, the NCT, as a 16-team event, and they were apparently too stiff-necked to start cutting ...

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!

As someone who has had the misfortune to play at CBI tournaments, I can only say, woo-hoo!

This news comes as a surprise to me, though -- I had no idea CBI was suffering from financial problems. Can anyone speculate as to what precisely caused CBI to suspend their program?

Re: How much does your college NOT support quizbowl

I thoroughly enjoyed S&F, although this is the first summer tournament I've played, so maybe I'm not qualified to judge. Clearly a couple of the packets were too hard (the Whitman HS packet and the other Aaron's packet) but I felt that these were more the exception than the rule. -Helene Cixous ...

A solution is obvious. I propose that NAQT make its tournaments only open to undergrads (in their first four years) and combine their two divisions into one. Freshment/CCs would play with everyone else but be eligible for separate awards (as undergrads are in Div I nowadays). This solution would so...
