Re: Where are you going to college next year? (2019)
I'll be heading to the cold quiz bowl wasteland of the North Country as I attend St. Lawrence University (Here we go Saints!) in the fall. I hope to try to do something related to quiz bowl there.

Quiz Bowl in the North Country Wasteland
Hi all, This is my first post on the college forum, and it deals with a problem a lot of potential new teams might be facing. Next year I will be attending St. Lawrence University (go Saints!) in the cold and rural North Country region of New York. I am planning on trying to form a team up there. Ho...

Re: 2018 Hit Songs Survey
As a youngling my thoughts might be different than many of you. BEST: 1. Happier (Marshmello & Bastille): I like everything that Bastille does and Marshmello's EDM combined with Dan Smith's voice on this record makes it a top bop of 2018 2. The Middle (Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey): At first I was l...

Re: I'm bored so let's suggest music
I'd recommend Bastille (of "Pompeii' fame), which is probably my favorite band. Here are my favorite songs from them: bad_news https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtVPa5baudI : This song is probably on my top 10 list for best songs of the decade so far. The lyrics are really eerie and mysterious, y...

Re: Fundraising
With our team, we’ve done successful fundraising through our annual “History Movie Night” that we host each year. It’s usually around February/March and helps the team with costs to NHBB Nationals. Last year I believe we made over 600 dollars in profit by selling $5 per student ticket. Also a good i...

Your Worst Moment In Quizbowl
Late night skype conversations with friends have led me to make this post. We were talking about our worst moments in the past year when I proceeded to tell my worst (and most rage filled) moment in quizbowl as such: Around March of this year, our team was headed to a Jeopardy!-style tournament (ver...

The 2016-2017 US History Bee questions (and qualifying exams from regionals) are available here ! The US Geography Olympiad exams are available here as well; answer keys for the written and cartographic exams will be available soon. All other packets will be posted once they're cleared in September...

Re: Activities Outside of Quiz Bowl
Asides from Quiz Bowl, I'm apart of The Junior State of America, a political debate organization for high school students (I hope to be on state cabinet next year + chapter officer!) and DECA (which also includes Quiz Bowl at some of their events), where I've made states this year (didn't make natio...

Re: Specific Question Discussion
Can I see the Gamergate tossup? I don't see the problem with the answer line. It's an aspect of current events/history and should be discussed. However, if there were some sort of bias in the question (either side of the Gamergate argument) I think you can make the argument it shouldn't be included.

Re: Specific Question Discussion
I had a problem with I believe to be a tossup on saturday morning (I believe round one) where It talked about "Assassination of Kim Jong Un's Half Brother". I thought that it was really harsh on answers not giving the name of his half brother (Kim Jong Nam), I thought the simple "Assa...

Re: NHBB Nationals Recap
I quite liked the set this year, barring specific questions that I had problems with (Once a private thread for question discussion is created I will elaborate). In addition, this year there was less waiting time and lateness (Last year I spent atleast an hour at one room waiting to start a USHB pla...

Re: US Politics Bee
I am interested in a "US Politics only/ World Politics" Tournament. However, I would think that this would fall under the NHBB thread realm and should not be under "Regular Season Tournaments".

Re: 2016 National Quiz Bowl Awards: Winners Posted
I don't know if this is the right thread to put this, but Mr. Madden: Have the High School NHBB questions sets for the 15-16 year (Both Regionals and Nationals) been posted somewhere like NHBB did for 14-15? I would like to be able to use them for practice.

Re: Factual Errors
Aethelred's underlining was definitely wrong; it, Queen Anne's War, and Paul Jennings' complicated freedom story slipped past me. (Aethelred's been underlined correctly in whichever of C, B, and A sets asked for him; I don't know how it got past me this time. Thanks to the moderators who weren't st...

Re: Factual Errors
Also, on the question about the Labour Party (I believe round 6 of bee), I remember specifically it saying that "This party was in an alliance with David Steel's Liberals" I Immediately buzzed in (due to my sorta-prolific knowledge of British Politics) and said "Social Democratic Part...

Re: Factual Errors
I didn't encounter this error personally since it was in a lightning round that I didn't read, but other readers have told me that there was a part that referred to Genghis and Kublai sharing the " family name " "Khan", which is (to quote one of my friends) like saying Alfred th...

Re: 2016 National History Bee Discussion
Overall, the question set for the bee was great (besides the repeats). One of my favorite questions was the Dick Cheney Hunting Incident question, In which I was prompted when I said "that time when Dick Cheney shot a guy". However the answer was accepted because apparently in the answer l...

Re: Discuss 2016 NHBB Nationals Here
• Make the question worth 4 points for super-power, 3 points for power, and 2 points for the end of the question and after the question has finished. My idea with this is that, for most questions being played at the playoff level, getting the question right before "for the point" requires...
