I seem to have a vague memory of a tournament held at GDS when I was in seventh grade that I think was billed as the "NAQT MD/DC State Championship." I've been seeing on the announcement board that a lot of other states have such a tournament this year, but not the MD/DC area. Is there any particul...

Due to the extremely unfortunate and inconvenient date of our It's Academic semifinal taping, St. Anselm's will not be able to attend. Drat. I was really looking forward to this, too. I guess we'll try again next year.

I know Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt does or did host one or two middle school tournaments each year. Those tournaments occurred Friday evenings and featured such schools as Martin Luther King MS, Kenmoor MS, Walker Mill MS, and St. Anselm's. It has been almost nine years since I gradu...

Aidan, You're right to not try to have them running ACF packets right away. Pyramidal toss-ups at the middle school level can be hard to find and you don't want to frustrate them with high-level high school packets. Vary the format you're using with fun things like lightning rounds and such. There'...

Re: How To Do This?
Aidan, GDS has (although it hasn't been very active this year) a middle school quizbowl club that meets every few weeks. I usually read HAVOC or good high school packets. If you arrange some sort of middle school scrimmage, GDS would probably be interested in participating. Sweet. I shall keep this...

How To Do This?
Hello middle school quizbowl coaches, As of tomorrow afternoon, I am one of you. The St. Anselm's middle school team effectively died after last year, and we are attempting to resuscitate it, with myself in charge. I was the only one who volunteered. Our first step was finding players. We had the te...

Re: Dropping Titles in Literature Questions
Why are buzzer races precived more often than they occur? I think it would be quite useful to be able to gauge how many precived buzzer races are actually buzzer races when evaluating sets. It's my experience that people sometimes reflexively press the buzzer when they see someone else make a move ...

Re: Dropping Titles in Literature Questions
No offense intended, but this really isn't a good idea. The way I am parsing it, this seems to advocate "bad" or "undedicated" college teams playing with high schoolers on high school questions. Stepping stone theory is bunk. Also, why segregate good high school teams out? I feel like this would dr...

Speaking of round 7, the paper cut outs clue came way too early for Matisse. I was under the impression that his use of collage was very famous. The Notebook Hey everyone, I've been lurking around the boards here for a while, but this is my first post, so I thought I'd introduce myself and my school. I'm Aidan Mehigan, and I go to St. Anselm's Abbey School in Washington, D.C. I've been playing quizbowl since seventh grade (our school is grad...
