Re: Peaceful Resolution Discussion

I'm interested in how that sentence continued, if only because I can't imagine what AoC has to do with finiteness (since finite choice is a theorem of ZF) Here's the entire tossup: 11. The set of sentences which are true in structures with this property are not generally decidable or effectively en...

Re: Peaceful Resolution Discussion

I generally enjoyed this tournament, and my biggest complaint of bonus variability has already been discussed. I also had a really hard time judging how specific an answer many of the science tossups were looking for, and I don't think that was entirely from lack of QB-playing rust. Could someone p...

Hmm, can the dowry bonus get posted? We definitely answered "dowry" and got 10 points after the question said "opposite of bride price," so I'm not sure if that got changed last minute or something went wrong or what. Whoops, you're completely right. The question in its entirety: 19. Thousands have...

Re: BARGE General Discussion

At this point, I don't see a massive overhaul of Peaceful Resolution to bring it in line with the goal of BARGE, but I think it's definitely a worthwhile goal. From the discussion of ACF Nationals last year the consensus seemed to be not that any individual question was too hard for that tournament,...

Ah. I heard Chicago people were staying for it, guess not. Sorry about this. A couple Chicago people were interested in playing, but we didn't have the critical mass necessary to make it worthwhile for people with cars (both of whom had already played) to stay longer. This was a good tournament, an...

I maybe be misremembering, but I believe the question on "rational numbers" talks about constructing them with Cauchy sequences, which is at best a hose for "real numbers" and at worst not very correct. Objectively, Jasper and Kurtis were confused by the May Day question even though they had read the work and Ike was uncertain what was being asked for on the Troy question even though he had read “Aeneas at Washington” and knew the question was talking about that poem. It's Academic does a decent job of making itself look like it's awesome on TV, but the tapings are much smaller affairs than you would think and a lot of the tech and stuff is outdated.
