Re: NHBB & USGO Nationals Set Thread

Well, I mean they have to be in the packet somewhere--if you win by 10 points, any question in the game is significant. Right, but there were a fair number of them in quarter 1. The criticism that questions in quarter 4 are worth more is a decent criticism, but consider how that's sorta weak that o...

Re: NHBB & USGO Nationals Set Thread

Actually, I will say in my opinion, sports should never be in the 4th quarter. I would've felt sour to myself if me 30'ing the Commissioner of the NBA question would've been the difference in the round we played (thankfully it wasn't, but still).

I thought NHBB IV was a very well run tournament on the whole, from my point of view. Few things on my mind: 1) The Grand Ballroom set up for bowl playoffs... is it possible to get a podium that is off stage and facing both teams, right down the middle (a la HSNCT)? However, I don't really think that the community forms the same kind of bond with schools with such selective enrollment policies that draw from an entire district/county/region/state, versus a run-of-the-mill public school where all athletes live nearby. The context of endgame strategy in a JV tournament is different from that off a national tournament finals. You don't need to pay for practice questions. Here's some freebies c/o HSAPQ.

You also don't need to buy a buzzer system (where did this all come from anyways...? Isn't GNS an established program that has been to Nats before?)

I wonder if your coach may be onto the idea that perhaps some of the kids on your team that are either not good or don't really care about quiz bowl are probably trying to milk the idea of the team going to a national tournament as an excuse for a mini-vacation.
