Re: PACENSC 2018 - A Pokemon Set @HSNCT
UPDATE: I've been told that many people who want to play PACENSC are either playing or staffing ACRONYM, which I expected. Our tentative plan now is to run our event at around 9:00pm on Saturday. Hopefully that will significantly reduce conflicts. As for packet writing, we're making good progress. ...

Thanks for saying that Erik, I definitely should have commented this is my personal experience, and I'm also wondering if people have felt similarly in their QB experiences. This could easily reflect more on me or the teams I've been part of then any general, or even common, QB experience.

I do agree that new players will generally acclimate to what's presented as good to them, and it would be worth examining the issue more of how they might respond if the "standard" tournament (ACF) were to introduce powers. On a different topic of thought, I'm also interested to hear how people might have dealt with insularity in other clubs/disciplines. This is about 70% done, and I'm very excited with its current state!
Assuming all goes well, I'll be playtesting a "mini" version at NSC, using reduced rounds and likely using a shootout format.
It's still to be announced, but the main summer side event bonanza is the main target for this set.

Instead of fees, how do people feel about a "commitment" to staff a tournament? This has been suggested before, but I'd very much like to have more book prizes that reward things like "top scoring freshman" or "top scoring first time quizbowl performance" instead of 8 top scoring prizes. Just for the record, I've toyed with the idea of working with PACE in my head, but I think I'm disconnected enough from the community that I wouldn't be nominated and as we all know, self-nominations are "discouraged."
