It the the brand of soap in some Taco Bell restaurant... Yes, this tossup was terrible. Few things about this tossup [thank Dwight for it], though-it was in its original context part of the insult theme of our packet, and was thus intended to be completely crappy. I expected it fully to be cut from...

I did not suggest that Caltech had not come due to issues with the questions-the mentioning of Caltech was just to note the teams noticeably not in attendance at this tournament and was not an attempt to analyze the motivations of any of those teams. I know that there is a certain element in my own ...

Ghetto Warz commentary

Ghetto Warz happened. After a six-game round robin and a bracketed playoff, UCLA A (6-2, 2-1) and UC Irvine A (6-2, 2-1) were tied. No finals match was played to resolve this and UCLA A was awarded the title based on having accumulated a higher points-per-game average. Yes, it ended in a tie. Grante...

Resurrecting a long comatose thread, but this didn't come up and I'm very curious about it: So Yale had it's autobid revoked after it qualified a team by playing into the ICT field. Doesn't really bother me much, but here's what I don't understand. The University of Georgia, which hosted the Southea...

But that's moderately irreleva...

Results from the West Coast: In the round robin, UCLA [Dwight, Ray, Jay, and I] (4-2) defeated Stanford A [Kevin, Kristiaan, Frank, and that other guy] (2-4) by margin of final record. Berkeley A finished tied with UCLA at 4-2, but featured an ineligible player and had an 0-2 head to head record aga...

Certain things: 1. The tournament did happen December 3, 2005, which I have neglected to mention up until this point. My use of the term "dug up" was not in reference to it being something far on the backburner in terms of time, but rather location-it wasn't posted anywhere, and I only hap...

Best Team in the World?

Dug up while I was procrastinating for two final exams coming in six hours: http://www-scf.usc.edu/~quizbowl/tw3/TWIII_teamdetail.html#t6 Can this be real? Is this some team from out of the state of California? Really, what's going on here? I'm willing to believe that there are some amazing high sch...

For what it's worth, the UCI packet was submitted not by Willie Chen, rather by the other UCI team. Unless I'm mistaken, the Willie Chen-led UCI team was a late addition to the field and provided no packet; the packet was written by relative novices from the second team.

To elaborate on some of the points mentioned earlier. To the best of my remembering what Noah told me, the Jerry packet was going to be scrapped and used for parts. The Jordan packet was not mentioned in this conversation, although it ended up being the packet actually used for its parts during the ...

Technophobia Discussion or Monologue, Really

I suppose after a rather lackluster experience at WIT, I could expect no better from a tournament entirely run and edited by a team that submitted one of the poorer packets to that tournament. Unsurprisingly, I was right. Unfortunately, on top of that, there were major logistical problems and errors...
