Re: Equal represenation in Quizbowl

Lemme preface by saying I'm not a girl. My parents thought Kay is a manly name. I pretty much agree with everyone else here that you should focus on just recruiting people and hoping that a girl comes. But also, I think that there are a lot of social misconceptions and prejudices against quizbowllah...

Re: Math Computation, Round 23748234

To Guy, I'd argue that a lot of those tricks are important in mathematics. The adding of a sequence is a central tenant of good math. In fact, many people argue that you should learn such tricks well before calculus if you really want to understand/master math. A lot of these tricks have much wider ...

Re: Math Computation, Round 23748234

What's up with people against tricks? Do people really like doing things the nitty gritty way? I think that it'd be difficult to write computational math problems that required the normal type of pyrimidality. So... maybe we should exile math comp to the bonuses? At least until someone finds out how...

Is it too early to be making prediction? Hell, no! This is going to be an interesting year with the best of Ransom Everglades and infamous Matt Byrd graduating. Re: Math Computation, Round 23748234

Personally, I believe that it is possible to have math questions be pyramidal in a different way. If I were to give someone a question asking for the sum of the roots of x^4+2x^3-186767x^2+5763x+8675309, Joe the Plumber back there might scratch his head and proceed to use rational root theorem or so...

Re: 2009 NTAE

I used to really like this type of format; but as of late, I've started to dislike it. As much as I'd hate to admit it, NTAE will probably be done for good or extremely crippled in the near future. They'd probably have to completely reformat due to their lack of pyramidal questions. It's not a very ...

So I can speak to the difficulty coding system a little bit, from a writer's end. To wit: I can write a question and code it basically anything for difficulty. Then an editor can receive it and say "well, that isn't right!" and fix the difficulty code, or change a bonus part or two, or so...
