FYI: Panasonic (more recently the National Tournament for Academic Excellence) is pretty much defunct. Once long-time director Peggy Harrod retired and Panasonic withdrew its sponsorship, it went into decline and hasn't happened for several years. They had a policy of one team per state or territory...

Both; articles are solicited and members of the association write them as well. Check out the recent issues that are posted and you'll get an idea, contributors'...

Another thing: Daniel in another thread mentioned a problem with "entourages". If the rooms are of a size that cannot handle a crowd, then the TD needs to announce well ahead of time something along the lines of "maximum six players per team" or some such. I think the problem wit...

Re: The Art of the Cold Call: Contacting High School Teams

If you do blind invites via snail mail, be sure to address them to the "Quiz Bowl Coach" or "Academic Team Coach". if you send it c/o the school only then it will probably get buried on someone's desk. I'm assuming that you're hosting high school level tournaments.

Fond Farewell IV

With the advent of the IHSA State Series, we come to the end of our regular season. Thus, it’s time to bid a formal farewell to our graduating seniors who have contributed so much to our activity. Feel free to add anyone I missed (my apologies). Obviously, the better I know them, the longer my testi...

To piggyback on what Mike and Jeff said, this was a very enjoyable tournament to moderate and I wasn't the least bit tired when I went home for the day. I will also add that in my rooms, I didn't hear any griping/whining/complaining about no bouncebacks or no timeouts all day, which was very refresh...

In Illinois, we used to take 6 to Panasonic, then we started to take just the minimum number, 4 when we went to NASAT's first tournament. Someone always asks "What if someone gets sick?" but like the runner-up becoming Miss America, that rarely happens (and hasn't, thus far with Illinois' ...

Good point. We probably need to choose the date early and then heavily publicize it, making it something to look forward to. It should probably be before the IHSA State Tournament, since most teams in the state look at that as their last hurrah for the season.

I agree with much that has been said here.
