Fitting in Sports and Quizbowl
So, I've seen some threads recently with people talking about commitment to a quizbowl team and people getting pulled like 8 different ways and not having time for anything. With that in mind, I thought that I'd share some of my experiences as a high school and Div3 athlete who also plays quizbowl w...

Minnesota won a 4-team tournament, finishing 6-0 and beating Carleton A, B and St. Olaf (not in that order). Fun was had! We did a double round robin and then went to lunch (Minnesota just went home).

I agree somewhat, but this is definitely changing. The MARC just started weekend service last year in MD for example, and could be a great option for, say, a school like Gonzaga going to Johns Hopkins's tournament this year. Northfield might even get a train to the cities in 20 years or so! Besides,...

The SoCal field for this set was gutted, with the first place team (Arcadia A) missing their science specialist, but I still find cause for concern when North Hollywood, a team that averaged 23.5 on several NAQT IS-sets last year with the same lineup, only scored 21.06 PPB on this set. Keep in mind...

Some observations:
I think a tossup on Buenos Aires shouldn't have the big avenue as its lead-in. Also, for the Modi bonus, RSS isn't a "party."
Asking people to do Riemann sums in 5 seconds is a bad idea.
I thought the Chiang Kai-shek tossup was a little too easy.

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?
It's been a great four years, and in my opinion, the circuit next year will be stronger than it has been in a few years. Most teams will be good. Baltimore-DC area teams (excluding Richmond from this) need to host more tournaments, though, and actually mail invitations. Very few schools do this, and...

Just saying, unless you need to pay a stipend to an advisor, you only need about $200 for a buzzer system plus money for practice questions to start a club. yeah, tournaments and travel costs are negligible of course Parents drive and kids chip in for the entry fees. For the question on Vishnu, I don't see the need of using the word "kshatriya." I'm pretty sure that kshatriya just means warrior in sanskrit, and that's what they are in the myth anyway, if I'm not mistaken. In the finals packet, I think "secondary protein structures" should be ...

The byes have no tossups or bonuses recorded, so this shouldn't make a difference.eseifte1 wrote:FYI on the stats.
The individual stats for Centennial A and perhaps for some of the others in our bracket should have been assessed for 7 games not 9 games because of the bye games where we accrued no points.

In general, this set could be formatted a lot better. Tossups were split between pages, and bonuses started on the same page that had the last of the tossups. Also, there was a lot of poor grammar and that kind of thing. This is obviously a minor detail, but it was kind of annoying to have to flip f...
