Chris, if you want DACQ to write for Missouri format (which as David mentions, can be a real mess), you need to act quick, because this is a year when they make contracts. I think it's at the Ad Co meeting in May when they discuss some of this stuff. I will mention if you have cheap prices it will i...

Here's what Avery responded to Brandon Thomas from Mound City with after Brandon alleged that Tarkio was rigging conference played on Avery questions: As this year's vendor, we take the incidents mentioned with Tarkio (and Purdy in a previous topic) very seriously. I have contacted the people at Tar...

I should note MACA does not pick question providers. It's 100% MSHSAA. Quizbowl came under MSHSAA's control when a bunch of administrators voted to unify it under one organization that controls most other competitive activities. I guess it's just an easier package for them. The problem is that MSHSA...

This post will be a repeat of what people have already said (with a few extra things added in), but it was my gut reaction just to reading your post before I read everybody else's response. 3) Missouri seems to have more immature smart-aleck HS players per capita than any other state in the country...

As for MACA, it still ultimately represents Missouri's attitude, as most members of MACA (including higher officials) express disgust for NAQT and related formats. The only schools that really leap to mind as liking pyramidal formats are us, Liberty, Ladue, Smithville, Savannah, maybe Clayton, WCA b...

I'll point out the pet topics I've noticed through reading various Avery sets. - The state of Utah or things in it. - 19th Century American Literature, especially Hawthorne (and Rappacini's Daughter) - Things occuring in the year before the questions were played. - The Forsyte Saga - A Hans Christia...

That final was really good. This year it is in many ways an honor to say we've beaten Liberty because they are REALLY GOOD. They got screwed out of a chance to do really well at state (I'm pretty sure we already played the state championship game on Saturday in all but name). I'm especially frustrat...

Re: Vermont
Vermont's such a small state that we're not going to produce serious national championship contenders wherever we go What a silly mentality. If you're never going to try and be competitive, you're never going to be competitive. And I really fail to see why Vermont being a small state has anything t...

In Missouri the coaches association pays for about half and the individual students pay for their remaining $250 (it might be a little more now because we need an extra room for a girl). So it's pretty reasonable for us. I (a) agree that Panasonic is not real quizbowl (but I'll still do it if it mea...

The Missouri poll came out, based on the moderators of the Missouri board. It's also sparked some discussion there, but here's what it is: Based more on best teams not where you will finish at state. As always open to talk but make sure you provide reason why you believe in that team. If you would l...

As for talk of regional bias, I don't actually think there's a lot of that in these results. Based on results from tournaments this year, it's pretty clear Governor's is the best team. It's also clear that the top 5 will include Richard M. and State College. Based on tourney results. I would be real...

I know I would love for their to be some kind of solo or duo tournament at the HSNCT, and I think that would be a really good idea because so many good players and teams from HS are there, so we could all try to get our feet wet in the college circuit. Of course it wouldn't be affiliated with CO, bu...

Yeah, because the boards are everybody in quizbowl. I heard a lot of other people (both on and off the boards) complain about it. But I think you're missing the point that Junior Varsity is exactly that: JUNIOR VARSITY. Not varsity, no matter how young you are. Now, if the tournament were advertised...

I would figure it'd bomb, especially because at some point NAQT opened it up to teams from anywhere in the world (including America) which they wouldn't have had to do were there interest. On a related note I noticed the NAQT High School champ doesn't get a trip to Japan this year. <sarcasm>Hmm, won...
