Re: MEKONS: a rock music audio tournament
The separate rooms/6 singles players cap/ladder format all seem fine to me. I also wouldn't mind doubles if you could get enough staff. I just didn't want like some 20-player shootout horror.

Re: MEKONS: a rock music audio tournament
I really love the idea of this, but a shootout singles format doesn't appeal to me--to me, it heavily rewards guessing and also, unless there's a field cap, really punishes people who only have middling knowledge, who otherwise might still get buzzes in individual matchups or in smaller fields. (I s...

So I usually have the reverse (I get better as the day goes on and am bad to start), but I think this advice can apply: -First, you have to decide if the issue is fatigue, playing style, or both. I don't know if this is produced anymore, but I think something like the old NAQT Intramurals set, perhaps a touch easier, would be nice. Relatively short questions, fairly easy difficulty, more CE and Pop Culture than most sets. I think this could be easier to pitch to some teams/schools. "Hey...

Mike has said he doesn't really want the commission money for this, but assuming the set is completed, is run, and I play it, I'll donate the money to a charity of his choice.
(However, as this is a Mike Bentley video game tournament, I also expect to score like 3 PPG.)

Regarding the Cyrus Cylinder clue, I think the wording could have been more specific but there's nothing really wrong there. It has been referred to in that way, although for nationalistic purposes. The question was not attempting to assert it actually was such a charter.

I don't really want to select one particular concern, as I think all of them to some extent are issues, but I think the primary issue, which connects to many of them, is that too many collegiate programs are floundering for a variety of reasons. They lack proper tournaments to play, they lack guidan...

We currently have 8 people (or four teams). If this is the field, we'll do a double round robin-finals, but I'll keep registration open through next week.
In order to have more teams play, though, I would need more staffers. So I will again repeat my call for staffers--I will pay $10.

If we can get 16 people, that sets up a very convenient 8 doubles teams that can play a full round robin. If we get more or less, we'll improvise.
