At most tournaments I've been to, the protest is lodged immediately after the question and is resolved at the end of the match, should it affect the match's outcome. Sometimes I've seen coaches try to protest questions at the end of the match, and usually those protests are sent to the TD or ignored...

Yeah, I was watching the TJ-Walton match, that was pretty crazy... It was a pretty good tournament, even though we didn't do as well as we would have hoped. 11 days in Chicago was a bit much, but well worth it. A 4 hour delay at O'Hare didn't help, and going 5-5 in prelims didn't help either, but oh...

There's a great deal I'm willing to tolerate for free airfare to far-flung locales. Whether I bother with CBI next year depends on the nationals host -- I certainly won't be coming for the buzzer races, Friday night matches, and restricted answer space worthy of Trivial Pursuit or a Chip Beal packe...

We'll be at NAQT in Chicago. And about the power marks, there were definitely a few we got in on that I was sure were powered, but weren't, and a most of our powers were really odd (as in, a fairly obvious clue had already been given). I'm not sure if any other tournaments are using IS-50A (since Ap...

We actually went 3-4. It was pretty crazy. We played horribly all day. This was our worst tournament of the year, but I'm glad we came, because we have a lot of practice to do in order to get ready for NAQT HSNCT in Chicago. The format really takes adjusting to, as well as the questions. The tournam...

More on Grissom's beastness: Last year's team had Shiva as the main point-getter and he was a freaking beast. You guys would do awesome out of state and you should really consider running a school tournament instead of school system tournament so you can raise some funds to travel. It'll pay off if ...

We'll be at NAQT states, although it should be interesting since we've never played in an NAQT tournament or practiced on a set of NAQT questions. Right now we're not sure if we can afford NAQT nationals without significant expense to the other players, and if we went, it'd be 3 people as opposed to...

I don't like math because I can't solve it fast enough, but also it doesn't test the recall/thinking portions of quiz bowl (By thinking I mean the piecing together of obscure clues to get early buzzes). Yeah, Nick, Jim Gerrick is a tad bit better than Patrick's Press or QU or whatever the heck you g...

Good God! They let him out of state?!?! Well, I'm glad you beat him. We beat him at state last year in our televised round. It was very, very sweet. Although I believe I've said this before, he looks somewhat like a lamprey with tooth decay and doesn't sound much better. Just keep your email address...

IMHO, Indian Springs is too unstable to make a run at ASCA. We beat them at Brindlee Mountain's tournament by over 100 points without our 2nd leading scorer (usually gets 40 ppg). They're too streaky to pull it off. Indian Springs and LAMP are the two teams in the state that will somehow do very wel...

I think the ASFA guys have gotten the point about the tournament. They'll improve it next year. It's time to lay off and stop beating a dead horse. It's really aggravating when people slam a tournament that you spent a while putting together. Feedback is feedback, but I don't want them to get angry ...

I'll just clarify... I was feeling lazy yesterday. Format Issues: I've just about had it with the varying point values for tossups. All tossups should be 10 points, regardless of which period they're in. Use the pyramidal style tossups from the last round the whole way through and make them worth 10...
