Omar, I'm sorry this community's attitude toward NAC is coming as a surprise to you. As someone who first followed NAC in 1991 and has seen and heard numerous perversions of fair play in the time since, I can recall my own disappointment when I came to realize (many years ago) the endemic nature of ...

I'm going to be reading at HSNCT, and I'd like to know if it's still possible to latch on somewhere as a free agent. If it's too late to toss my hat in the ring with someone, I could probably help out in some other capacity, but it would be neat to get to play.

We're out here, and we definitely want Klein involved in TQBA. Right now, plans have been made for two Houston-area events in the fall, slated for September 26 and December 5. Every school counts as we try to bring Texas out of the Chip-format wilderness and finally into the 21st century. I played a...

As much drama as Dorothy Meek has had over the years with Chip... if she hasn't abandoned him already, she never will. If my foggy recollection holds, the first post-Brad Harris team earned the top seed for playoffs in 1996, with Ryan Cooper as a freshman, then got Chipped on a challenge of some sor...

Re: 2008 QU NAC discussion and comment
Chip's bracket indicates to me that he erroneously grouped Latin with the 5-1 teams or had erroneously listed them as 4-2. That would place them 9th by their score average. Chip's incidents of bracket-fixing are more blatant than this, folks. This is just another mistake. Just as an example of blata...

There is zero quiz bowl activity in San Antonio to my knowledge. That's where I live now. My guess is that's not a Texas school. I tend to think Texas will be back, though I'm obviously biased. Home to the last HSNCT champion from outside the nation's best region, Texas had a top-10 team as recently as last year. It has been suggested more than once that non-elite teams go to NAC because their chances of succeeding are considerably greater, and they can go home and say "we did this at Nationals" and no one knows the difference. For instance, my slumping state sent four teams to HSNCT. Two other tea...

I would be very surprised if the room count ever exceeds the count they start with. 24 more rooms would mean you'd suddenly need 24 more buzzer sets and 48 more volunteers. The information given to NAQT volunteers indicates only 56 game rooms -- less than last year, I think. that allows for 7 games for everyone in 10 rounds.
Doesn't having 48 teams worth of people on bye at once sound like a bit of a logistical problem?

To my knowledge, there is zero rumbling from UIL. If I am correctly interpreting Chip's summary of the DC phase, Plano Shepton reached the quarterfinals. Quite an achievement for a school without juniors or seniors.
