Re: DACQ Weekend of Quizbowl Goodness: BYO Dagger (3/15/08) @GMU
Given Chris's explicit request not to leave before the round robins are completed, it's utterly selfish to leave because you "simply do not want to" play anymore. The entire tournament's running smoothly depends on teams' being there to play, and each time a team decides to act whatever t...

Re: NAQT card-basd power-matching system
The card system seems to work well if, as Bill says, the number of teams is greater than or equal than two raised to the number of rounds.leftsaidfred wrote:I take it that the Charter system is well received?

Re: NAQT card-basd power-matching system
Thanks. It's better than the kludge I was trying to generate by hand. How did you assign from round to round? Did you use any kind of algorithm I could apply or extrapolate from to populate the next 2 rounds? I don't believe Bill (stat74) assigned pretournament seedings. Rather I think he assigned ...

Re: NAQT Subject Distribution
We are now to the point where we get 2 computations plus 1 science computation per round. Every single time I read "pencil and paper ready" someone groans. I wish it were one per round only. I believe there are regions of the country that keep asking NAQT to include more computation and I...

As for eligibility, the decision that was reached today is that players who were not on a team that has qualified for a national tournament this season are eligible. However our coach has suggested only enforcing that rule on juniors and seniors and opening the tournament to freshmen and sophomores...

We don't have exact eligibility standards yet...and we may not end up using them. Certain teams who should know who they are know that this is not the right sort of tournament for them, especially as they prepare for nationals. One of the reasons I've been refraining from expressing interest is tha...

I won't be able to give a definitive answer until the tournament date approaches and my students have a better idea of their schedules, but I'm guessing it'd make things nearly certain that we won't attend. Of course, we've had low enough interest that we've gone to very few out-of-town tournaments ...

Hey Dave, On the page for our team, it shows us at 27-5, but it doesn't show that on the page for Ohio... whats up with that? It probably means your record has been updated to 27-5 but the ranking hasn't run since the update. I seem to remember Byko mentioning something about that. Check and see if...

This year, we had a wide range of teams at a variety of levels, so we had make the questions as balanced as possible so everyone had a fair chance at making the playoffs. Perhaps this is a slight misstatement, or not. Regardless, a tournament needs to do its best to cater to it's entire audience, n...

It's my firm belief that players who wish to play should be afforded the opportunity to play. Besides, what's the real difference between being the doormat in practice and the doormat in a tournament. I do not care ot have any of my players be in the postion that they KNOW they are on the A team or they KNOW they could never be on the A team. I like that uncertainty. I don't think online antics should play a large role in such determinations. As Reinstein says, the real factor should be the quality of the questions.
