Perhaps a late January tournament and revive ACF Winter? There will be enough packets with enough accidental difficulty variation that the slightly more difficult packets can be put into ACF Winter, while the easiest packets can be kept in Fall.

Matrix multiplication is covered on the SAT Subject test Math level II, so I don't think it's too outlandish for us to expect some of the brightest (remember, this was in a finals packet of a national championship) students in the country to know how to multiply matrices and be able to do it quickly...

Other teams played games during that time, and as a result their ranks went up. Also, since you're not really connected to other regions, you'll be very volatile.

My stats have Cistercian at 19-8 for the year, with losses to Norman North B (OK) and Deer Creek A (OK), as well as St. Mark's B and St. Mark's C, pushing them down, despite their wins over LASA.

Now that we're in the spring semester, I should be able to keep up with these a bit more often. There have now been over 12,000 games of quizbowl played this year between a total of 1778 teams. The method it seems you're describing would be a random walker. What I've done is created a multigraph between the teams (nodes) where each game played is an edge weighted by the score differential. The number is a rating, a scale-able number that, the closer numbers are together, the closer they are. I've just kept it on a 0-100 scale, with a higher number being better, normalized so the worst team is a 0, and the best team is a 100. The ranking then becomes your order by rating.
