Yellow Jacket Invitational @ Sidney HS (Sidney, OH, 4/13/13)

The Sidney Academia Team will be hosting the first annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, April 13th, 2013. The tournament will be a mirror of this year's LIST set produced by Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Last year's list set was very accessible and definitely one of the best sets of th...

Re: Quizbowl Central

I feel like you guys didn't even try to find a solution. What it seems like is happening is that it searches each word in the query individually. How do you solve this? Search just the most prominent word. For example, "As I Lay Dying" gives almost 5000 results. If you search "Dying,...

Re: Quizbowl Central

Does having to ignore some search results really make searching with the database "next to impossible?" When searching Of Mice and Men, over thirty thousand results are returned. When searching As I Lay Dying, almost five thousand are returned. Etc., etc. That does not come down to ignori...

Re: Quizbowl Central

It's working for me now Search is working, but not properly. Searching Arthur Miller comes up with King Arthur, Le Morte d'Arthur, President Arthur, and MacArthur before getting to the original query, which is understandable but annoying. Any word on this? I know people are busy but just wanted to ...

Re: 2011 NSC Question Set Discussion

And yet, two teams will come from the NW and only two of Copley, Olmsted Falls, Solon and St. Ignatius will make it to state. EDIT: Plus I really disagree that "that's just the way things are" are a good excuse for anything. The point being in no way does the current format inhibit the be...

Re: OAC Talk

The other side of this is that the field at the actual state tournament gets really diluted by the regional rounds. I would argue that for NE teams it will be as easy to make the semifinals at states as it will be to make it to states. Easier if Northmont and Walnut aren't in the same bracket. So t...

3rd quote - Yes there are distributions for trash/current events in TU/B, however I would be willing to bet considering how many more questions there are in an OAC packet than a TU/B packet, that the trash/current events distribution would be higher in OAC than TU/B. In the OAC tournaments I've bee...

Re: On-going season rankings

Yeah, OAC sucks and is meaningless. Better than Chip bowl and TV shows. Fortunately those don't have their own state championship tournaments. What's your point? Bad quizbowl is bad quizbowl. OAC when well written is not bad quizbowl though. I very strongly believe that this year's set will be cons...

The plan as of now is for a group of Ohio high school players to come up for the Sunday portion. So, I guess we (me speaking for them) are expressing interest. I would say the odds are near 100% that at least some group of them will be coming.

Also, trim geography down and/or put a much greater emphasis on world rivers/mountains/bodies of water in the geography category. I agree entirely that NAQT makes American geography too large a percentage of the geography distribution, but are you sure you want tossups on mountains? I have never se...

4. Also, trim geography down and/or put a much greater emphasis on world rivers/mountains/bodies of water in the geography category. I only have a problem with how many geography questions there are because of their content. I would much rather see a question on rivers/mountain ranges/bodies of wat...

Re: How should NAQT change its distribution for 2010-11?

1. I think players should be able to depend on having 2/2 Fine Arts questions in each round. One falling under visual art/architecture and one falling under music. With fine arts being one of the more major categories, it is not treated like it. When I think about up and coming teams studying, they ...

Secondly, why is so much of the geography American? Isn't a question on Akron biased towards an Ohio team? Or is this insignificant? I'm don't think that this is a problem. It's like saying a toss up on the Great Salt Lake is biased towards a team from the Utah. It happens. I think the important is...

Perhaps future HSNCTs should package--with every packet--two moderator evaluation cards. That would be easier than, at the end of the day, trying to recall specific moderator experiences. The actual length of time it would add to the game would be the time it takes for the moderator to say his or h...

Re: Proposition: Get Rid of Trash

I understand the argument that trash can help bring students to the game and make them feel like they want to stay and keep playing on the team. This is very valid, so having a trash question in each round in A-sets and IS-sets, I can understand. However, I think that it should disappear when we hit...
