Re: Women in Sets
Something that could definitely help address this is promoting more diverse writing staffs. I know that, as a woman, I naturally gravitate towards studying and engaging with woman-produced media. It's not surprising that writing staffs made up almost entirely of men, as is often the case in housewr...

This set was fun! Most people I talked to had a good time playing it. Thanks to the writers! Praises: 1) I liked the flags tossup, hearing "3 answers required" was amusing. 2) I thought the Caliban and Prospero tossup was good, and immensely gratifying after I had earlier negged the Friday...

This is going (further) off-topic, but I'll ditto that I think 1/1 is the right amount of AmHist. I don't think it needs more (but could see an argument), and definitely don't think it should fall to any less. I like the genre-based distributing of literature, but do think that the amount of America...

Re: Quizbowl men, get a haircut
Two other stray thoughts: 1) I will say that I agree with the general message of this thread. However, the tone is horribly condescending and rather mean-spirited. The bizarre references to "gay neighbourhoods" infuriated me, and I'm not entirely sure why. And in general telling people how...

So I only skimmed this thread, but as far as I can tell, this is the only thing that needs a response. It's stuff like this that cheapens the entire message to the point of irrelevance. No one's consciousness is being raised and no one's mind is being changed by taking this kind of attitude, nor is ...

Wow, this entire thread is a BAD take. If you have a bowl cut and aren't a gay person living in Bushwick, get a haircut if you want to. Otherwise don't. If you haven't cut your hair in 3 months, get a haircut if you want to. Otherwise don't. If you are balding but you also want to have really long h...

I think the tossup on "Judges" opened with a clue that was true of Jael and not Deborah (unless it quoted from the Song of Deborah). If I'm right, then that's a problem because Jael is not a judge.

FOGEY mirror at uWaterloo June 25th
We're mirroring FOGEY, come play it.
Cost $10 per player.
-$5 if you bring buzzers.
Format will likely be teams of 4, but if the field is too small, we might do doubles instead (unlikely).
MC 4040 is base. Be there at 9 AM, for a 9:30 start.

Rein Otsason is very good at the science things. I think most Nats-attending players have a range of topics for which they can say "I am virtually unbeatable on this subject matter". But while some are rather narrow (mine is Saivite Hindu mythology), Rein's is scarily broad (most of the ph...
