banananut wrote:Hey Jason-Does Harding really have quiz bowl? I'll be there in the fall! Maybe we'll be on the same team-if I decide to play. : )
Harding by my research seems to at least be a customer of CBI.

But they didn't show up @ regionals.

I've noticed that some people are not submitting tournament results because the forms don't support multiple divisions or classes of play. To TDs: How big of a problem has this been for you regarding this site? To players: How badly do you want to see results broken down this way? If there is enoug...

Hey, if you have to be on a losing team, it's always good to be in the top 5 scorers.

The one major problem with this is that many teams--I won't say all, but certainly a significant number--don't *want* to play that many matches. Some do and some don't, but given the choice, should not one cater to the teams that are actually interested in playing? Or better yet hold two tournament...

Tom Michael has pointed this out that even CBI consider WSU's team selection methods to be outdated. If WSU took its Paleolithic team selection methods and decided to ship that team off to NAQT regionals or a circuit tournament, I don't think any teams would refuse them entry on that basis alone. No...

I meant that the ACUI/CBI does not care about the teams so long as they fork over the dough and don't go to other tournaments or raise to much of a fuss. Do you think NAQT or any other tournament cares aboot the team as long as they fork over the money? The only difference is that the money is a bi...

I'm sure Wayne State will really miss that hefty 15 ppg contribution that helped lead it to a dominant 9th place finish on superlatively academic and challenging CBI questions against top notch competition. It's just tragic that we won't ever get to see another 300 posts about your good fight to bu...

First of all, tfmichael must be a CBI junky because it is insane to be able to cite that material. Next, I was being somewhat sarcastic. Also, CBI does not care about the teams, just the money. Hence, since Wayne State is nothing but a slow, brown nosing, bureaucracy when it comes to anything ACUI ...

Biology 4, Chemistry 2.5, Earth science 2, Physics 1.5 The science questions for vhsl (at least states) were quite good, but I am vexed as to why physics got such short shrift. I know most tournament distributions with which I am familiar have about one tossup for each of the big three (physics bio...

I think DJ and Chris have my attitude down perfectly. I mean, I love the trash in a match, as long as there are no more than 2 trash questions a game. I can understand how a good team would feel if a lesser team that knew stupid trash beat them because of a "Dungeons and Dragons" tossup. ...

The Coach's Manual is also worth checking out for another reason: the photos on page 2 (numbered page 44). Tom I found that photo to be very interesting indeed. The CBI coaches' manual contains lots of useful information for a HS coach certainly and is a good beginning for any student or faculty co...

At any rate, I don't know if this is a great comparison - the NCAA tournament fields twice as many teams, for one thing - but even if it is, I think it's tough to exclude whole regions of the country because the teams there aren't quite as strong as they might be. Yes, but there's only one really w...

Too bad the strength of schedule factor isn't weighted enough to prevent the winner from the Pacific Northwest from being invited. Anyone else think this sectional should not exist? Why should the Pacific Northwest be excluded from quizbowl, or made to travel several hours, simply due to historical...

Re: How QB teams running CBI-IM's can be RCT eligible...

Other methods to prevent the IM tournament from being a glorified intramural scrimmage are to either: (1) allow only 1-2 team members per IM team or (2) have a special scrimmage at the end of the tournament against the pre-existing A team.

Looks like the team that's dominated in Texas, the team that's dominated in the Southeast, and all of the Virginia powers will be showing up at the University of Virginia's NAQT event, along with several other marquee names from both in and out of state. This should provide a good preview of some o...

Oh, the Mock Trial thing is what I was thinking of! Hmm. In Warren County, VA, there is a sizeable homeschool community. (A bunch of Catholic groups have set up their headquarters there and many of the workers homeschool their kids.) I'd say there might be as many as 50-60 or so of HS age (compare t...

Haven't there been some homeschool associations that have fielded teams? I also remember at the R-MC tournament back in 1997, Parry McCluer sent two teams (combined record 0-14 IIRC). Included on that team were a few homeschool kids. At the time I only asked if the kids would have gone to McCluer if...
