4th Annual Buckeye Fall Tournament 10/15/11

Post by an6200 »

We at the Ohio State Academic Team would like to announce the 4th annual Buckeye Fall Tournament, to be held on the beautiful Columbus campus of Ohio State University on Saturday, October 15th, 2011.* This tournament will be open to any high school team that wishes to attend.

LOCATION: Like our tournaments last year, we expect that this tournament will hold its opening meeting in Independence Hall before moving to the game rooms in nearby Central Classroom Building

QUESTIONS: The question set will be a housewrite written by members of the Ohio State Academic Team. We have been aiming towards “Regular” high school difficulty, but to be on the safe side we will advertise it as being Regular-Plus difficulty. Each round will consist of 20 powermarked Tossups and 20 Bonuses with the following distribution:
4/4 Literature
4/4 History
4/4 Science
2/2 Religion, Mythology, Philosophy
2/2 Fine Arts
1/1 Trash/Current Events
1/1 Geography
1/1 Social Science
1/1 Other Academic leaning towards more Literature, History, Science

MIRRORS: If you are interested in mirroring this tournament, please e-mail myself at [email protected] or Jarret Greene at [email protected] and we will send you information.

In addition, if there is significant interest, we will run a JV division using the Fall Novice Tournament being written by various collegiate quizbowlers.

FORMAT: Teams will be seeded and placed in preliminary brackets before being re-seeded for playoffs. We would like to get 24 teams, but any number above or below that can be easily worked out. We would like to guarantee all teams at least 9 games.

REGISTRATION AND FEES:
The Fee structure is as follows:
-Base fee: $60 per team, with no limit to the amount of teams that can register, unless we are nearing the team cap.
-Buzzer discount: -$5 per working buzzer set, with the maximum number of discounts that can be applied being two.
-Staffer discount: -$10 per experienced staffer. This can be a coach, former player, student who is not playing, with maximum number of discounts that can be applied being two.
Minimum Fee: $30.

Registration:
To register, please e-mail me at [email protected] or post in this thread providing the number of teams, buzzers and staffers that your team will be bringing. There is no further form that needs to be filled out; simply sending an e-mail or post will suffice. Please feel free to share news of this tournament to any and all teams that you feel would be interested. I will be sending periodical updates via e-mail to all registered teams with pertinent information and updates. When the date of the tournament is near, I will send an e-mail asking for teams’ rosters for the purpose of stats.

METHOD OF PAYMENT: All teams should pay by the date of the tournament, unless something unforeseen happens that is explained to the Tournament Director. The preferred method of payment is in-person by cash or check during check-in on the day of the tournament, but we will also accept checks by mail ahead of time. Please e-mail me for the mailing address if that is your team’s preferred method of payment.

LUNCH: Lunch will not be provided on-site, but can be found in the vast, rich mecca of food that is High Street, adjacent to OSU’s campus.
Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you have any further questions. We’re very much looking forward to putting this tournament on and seeing a variety of teams from across Ohio and the nation compete!

Thank you!

Around 12, so there will be no shortage of questions.

The date of this tournament will most likely change due to a conflict with the Ohio schedule.
