This is the full announcement for the Kirksville, MO site of the MOQBA Winter Invitational, which Kirksville Coach Bob Odzinski is graciously allowing me to direct. This site of the Winter Invitational will be hosted on NAQT's IS 121-A, which is highly accessible and of the same difficulty as the MSHSAA districts series.
This tournament is geared toward teams who do not have a recent history of statewide dominance. As such, I am specifically targeting teams that did not make the playoffs of either the 2012 NAQT Missouri Qualifier or the 2012 MSHSAA State Championships. For a list of teams that are ineligible to attend this tournament, please see here.
This tournament is NOT a novice tournament. I highly encourage every program that is invited to play their full A-team, along with any other teams you want! This site will have an 18 team field cap, and I will offer each team between 8-10 guaranteed games, depending on the final field size. If you would like to register for this tournament, please email me at jacob.orourke.7@gmail.com and tell me how many teams, buzzers, and moderators your team would like to bring.
Tournament Fees:
Base fee per team: $60
Discount for each fully functional buzzer system a team brings: $5 (the buzzer system has to let 8 people play)
Discount for each additional team a school brings: $5 (in other words, a B team costs $55 dollars)
Discount for any team that did not play a MOQBA event last year: $10
Discount for each experienced moderator a team brings: $20 (I need to approve the moderator before I grant this discount, so please email me about this before you bring your moderator to the tournament)
In addition to the Winter Invitationals, we have many other events being announced for this season, so remember to check out http://www.moqba.org and moquizbowl.com for updates, especially if you are a team who is not eligible for this tournament. Both websites have links to free study sources, information about national championships, and anything else you could want to know about Missouri's increasingly competitive quizbowl circuit.
I hope to see people in Kirksville on January 12!
Sincerely,
Jacob O'Rourke, TD
