2018 MOQBA Fall Championship - Dec. 8, Columbia College (Columbia, MO)

Post by ScoBo »

The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the MOQBA Fall Championship on December 8, 2018 at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. As this is one of MOQBA's flagship events, we expect to host a geographically diverse field and encourage high school teams from every area of the state to attend.

The MOQBA Fall Championship will use the 2018 Harvard Fall Tournament (HFT) XIII set written and edited by the Harvard University academic team. As of September 19, this set was not assigned to any other tournament in Missouri. It is your responsibility to ensure that your team has not previously heard this question set and will not compete in any other tournaments using this set. Question set assignments are subject to change at any time; a list of tournaments known to be using this set is available in the forum thread linked above.

Schools from outside of Missouri are welcome to participate, but must register by November 4 to ensure we have enough time to obtain approval from MSHSAA.

For more information about the tournament and a link to the registration form, see the full announcement on our website.

Field and tournament updates will be posted more frequently on the Missouri Quizbowl Message Board

After round 10, St. Joseph Central, Hallsville A, and Louisiana each had one loss in a set of evenly matched superplayoff games: Hallsville won by 10 points over Louisiana in round 8, Louisiana won by 5 points over Central in round 9, and Central won by 15 points over Hallsville in round 10. This set up a two stage final, seeded by points per game within the superplayoff pool. Hallsville won the first game 385-200 over Louisiana to earn the small school title and advance to the championship game against Central. Central won the final game 320-260 to earn the title of tournament champion for the second consecutive year.

See the full recap on our website.

Thanks to all of our wonderful teams, staff, and Columbia College, we were able to start the first round earlier than scheduled, finish round 10 for most teams by 4:35, and complete the entire twelve round event with full statistics uploaded before 6:00! We appreciate every single person who attended this tournament and helped make it one of the most enjoyable tournaments we have ever directed, and sincerely hope that everyone had a similarly great experience.

We hope to see all of you return to Columbia College for the NAQT Missouri Qualifier on March 2!
