MSU Mirror Harvard Fall Tournament

Post by brianamagin »

MSU Quiz bowl is excited to announce our second high school tournament of the season on November 17th. We will be running the Harvard Fall Tournament set.

The tournament will be at Berkey Hall at MSU (509 E Circle Drive East Lansing MI, 48824). This is the same building that many of our other high school events have been held at previously. The tournament will start before 9 am and there will be at least 10 rounds depending on what works with the field size. Though we are not running NAQT questions, we will be using NAQT rules on untimed rounds.

The initial field cap is 30 teams. We would like to have as many teams as possible so getting more rooms shouldn't be a problem. Initially teams may sign up two teams and any additional teams will be put on a waitlist, however we are generally able to allow all waitlisted teams to participate in our tournaments.
The payment structure is as follows:
$80 - First team
$70 - Second team from a school and on
-$20 - New to quizbowl (no teams from your school have attended a pyramidal quizbowl tournament in the last two years-- let us know if you qualify for this)
-$10 - WORKING buzzer system (If the system is broken, we will revoke this discount. Additionally, if your school said they were bringing a buzzer and didn't, we will ask for the discount back.)
-$10 - Travel over 100 miles one way, as determined by Google maps
-$20 - Experienced moderator (Let me know if you have any interest in providing a moderator but we may not need any extra help.)
-$5 – Paying for the tournament the day of in cash. Please tell us ahead of time if you plan to pay in cash.
Minimum fee per team: $30

Team Player Cap: For this tournament and for MSU tournaments in the future we will not allow more than 6 players to play on a single team. This means that if you have 7 players, you can not just sub them all out you will have to pay for a second team. This is to make the tournament and stats run more smoothly on our end, and also to help for a better experience and more playing time on the participant's end. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this new policy.

Please pay us by cash or check made out to “MSU Academic Competition Club” on November 17th. Tell us if your team needs an invoice or you need to mail a check before the tournament. We will give all the teams invoices the day of the tournament. Please notify us if your team plans to pay after the tournament so we can get that process started ASAP.

Register by emailing [email protected] and please indicate how many teams your school is planning to bring and also how many buzzer sets, if any. If you plan on paying in cash or believe you are eligible for another discount like the distance discount please include that in your email.
