PSSAB 2019 @ Penn State (3/16/19)

Post by Victor Prieto »

Penn State Quiz Bowl will be hosting Penn State Spring Academic Bowl 2019 on March 16th, 2019. We will be using NAQT's IS-184A question set. Unlike our previous tournament, Nittany Lion Novice IV, there will not be eligibility restrictions on who may play. We will be seeking PACE qualifier status for this tournament. The initial field cap will be set at 16 teams.

Logistics

Registration will begin at 8:00 am in room 160 in the Willard Building (same as last year). The opening meeting will take place in the same room at 8:45 am, and the first round will begin at 9:00 am. Details about where to park and directions to the tournament location on campus will be emailed to teams about a week prior to the tournament. Several excellent lunch locations are in walking distance, and directions/suggestions about where to eat will be provided to teams at the tournament.

Registration

Registration for this tournament will use NAQT's registration system, a link to which can be found here. The field will also be updated at that link, so it will not be maintained here. The registration deadline is March 9th, one week prior to the tournament.

Teams may have a maximum of 6 players per registered team. You may register as many teams as you like, but if you are bringing seven players, you must split into two teams.

Fee Structure

$75 for first registered team
$65 for all subsequent teams
-$10 per buzzer
-$10 per staffer
-$30 for teams from schools which have not attended a NAQT or Penn State quizbowl tournament in the past three years

Minimum fee is $45 per team.

All teams must pay by the day of the tournament. We prefer to accept payment in person right before the tournament starts, which is payable via cash or check. Please make checks payable to "Penn State Quiz Bowl."

Any questions can be forwarded to me at vpp5054 at psu dot edu. We hope to see you at Penn State!

PACE has designated Penn State Spring Academic Bowl 2019 as a gold qualifier:
Congratulations! PACE (the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) has designated your tournament, Penn State Spring Academic Tournament 2019, as a gold NSC qualifier. This means that the top 20% of teams in your tournament (rounded up to the nearest integer) will qualify for our national high school quizbowl championship, the PACE NSC on the weekend of June 8-9 at the Hyatt Regency Reston outside of Washington, D.C.

The field is full at 18 teams, with 3 teams on the waitlist. Any other teams interested in registering should go ahead, as we are doing our best to expand the field. The only barrier for us to expand is staff - if there's anybody nearby that is open to helping out that I haven't already contacted, please let me know as soon as possible.
