SAT @ Scripps Ranch High School (4/20/19) - San Diego, CA

Post by JCPoly »

Hi everyone, we at Scripps Ranch High School are pleased to announce the Scripps Academic Tournament (SAT), which will be held on our campus on Saturday, April 20.

QUESTION SET: The tournament will be played on the 2019 RMBAT set, courtesy of the wonderful people at Richard Montgomery HS and Montgomery Blair HS.

DATE/TIME: The tournament will take place on Saturday, 20 April 2019. Check-in will begin at 8:15 A.M., and matches will begin at 9:00 A.M.

LOCATION: The tournament will take place at Scripps Ranch High School, located at 10410 Falcon Way, San Diego, CA, 92131. Matches will be played in the 900 building and check-in will be in room 421.

REGISTRATION: Teams must register by emailing [email protected] with the following information: (1) the school's name, (2) the number of teams, (3) the number of buzzers, (4) the number of moderators. Registrations will be confirmed with a reply email. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration fee may be paid on-site with either cash or check.

We will be implementing a very preliminary field cap of 18 teams. This will most likely increase to 24, but we need to ensure that we'll have enough staffers for the tournament to be run with 24 teams, so it's at 18 for now. The first two teams registered per school will automatically be let in. Every following team will be placed on a waitlist, and the waitlisted teams will be added to the field on April 12.

PRICING:
Schools that have not played any tournaments since, and including, the 2017-2018 season will pay a flat $40 per team.

$80 for the first team
$70 for subsequent teams

DISCOUNTS:
- $5 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
- $10 per experienced moderator
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per school

Minimum fee: $40 per team

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.
We will be using official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches will be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. In addition, ACF rules will be followed regarding timing. As long as everything goes according to plan, there will be preliminary round-robin matches in the morning and playoff round-robins in the afternoon. If everything does not go according to plan, well, don't worry. We'll figure it out.

FOOD: A light breakfast will be provided before matches begin, and lunch can be obtained with about a 5-10 minute walk from campus up Treena Street.

INQUIRIES: Any inquiries can be resolved through emailing [email protected]

We hope to see you on the 20th!
