The Academic Competition Club at the University of Virginia will be hosting its annual Cavalier Classic on October 25th 2008. The Cavalier Classic this year will run on HSAPQ ACF Set #2. This a preliminary announcement and more will follow as we get closer to the fall.

Ok, ok, that's quite a bit of an exaggeration, but I welcome the fact that Will Butler has stepped up to duly notify teams instead of avoiding the boards like the plague...

Will, can you send me an email or something and let me know some contact info for you or the UVA team? I'll be in law school there this fall, and while I doubt I'll play much -- if at all -- I'd certainly be interested in helping y'all out with reading and stuff.

While in the past we have done a swap with Vanderbilt, so far this year nobody has proposed to do that. However, if Vanderbilt would like to do a swap, it probably be in UVA's best interest to do it.

When do you think that you will know one way or the other? I have to get a tournament schedule to the administration pretty soon, and we'd like to be able to attend both tournaments if possible.

Mr. Huff, your question is one that I have as well. I'm doing my best to stay away from decision making and such from now on, but I'll mention to Jack that he should figure out what to do on the questions front (he had been in Egypt or something crazy for a while recently). Will, are you the best contact at UVa for this?

Any idea whether or not you'll be seeking PACE affiliation, Will? I can't remember if this tournament was a qualifier last year...

Note that there has been a change. This year instead of doing the Cavalier Classic as a house written set, we will be using HSAPQ
ACF Set #2. This is a different set than what is being used at UMD. To register please email me at wab2m@virginia.edu

I will post a field update tomorrow. At the moment it is looking like we will have registration between 8:30 and 9 in Wilson 402(A map is here http://www.virginia.edu/webmap/ACentralGrounds.html)
Price breakdown:
$80: first team
$60: each additional team
-$10 buzzer discount (each, limit 2)
-$40 moderator discount
-$5 Returner's Discount: Have sent at least one team to a tournament that UVA has hosted in the past calendar year.
-$20 New Team Discount: Have not sent any teams to any non-TV, non-VHSL tournament in the past 2 years.

Minimum fee: $40/team
To register just email me.

Fairfax HS competed in the previous three Cavalier Classics, but this year we were inadvertently left out of the contact loop for the October tournament. Having said that, is there still any slots open for our team next Saturday?........please let us know asap.

This is not set in stone yet. I would like to have consolation rounds and there probably will be.

Will,

This Saturday many of our seniors cannot attend because early applications for college are due next week. Therefore our B and C teams are more like our C and D teams. Please keep this in mind when bracketing our teams.

Yeah, they're clearly in the second tier here in terms of bonus conversion. It just seems that that Dan Puma kid likes getting fourteen tossups a game.
