Walton Academic Challenge - 10/03/09

Postby Medelstein » Tue May 19, 2009 1:33 pm

The Twentieth Annual Walton Academic Challenge will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009. We are returning to our original "slot" (the first Saturday in October) as the SAT is returning to its original "slot" and will be given on October 10, 2009.

We are planning once again to write our own questions this year and utilize a similar proportional breakdown of questions as in years past (i.e. ~25% Lit, ~25% Social Studies, ~25% Science, ~12% Fine Arts, ~5% Math, ~8% rotation of aforementioned categories).

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.

Thanks,

I have a couple of updates..

First of all, here is the field (so far):

Berkmar
Bleckley County
Cedar Shoals (3-4 teams)
Chattahoochee (4-6 teams)
Creekview

Secondly, due to question completion issues, we are going to be using NAQT IS-88 as our question set.

There is still plenty of time for teams to sign-up (and spaces available).

Thanks,

Today is the registration deadline for the Walton Academic Challenge:

So far, we have the following 37 teams signed-up:

Berkmar HS (2 Teams)
Bleckley County HS
Blessed Trinity (2 Teams)
Brookwood HS (4 Teams)
Campbell HS
Cedar Shoals HS (4 Teams)
Chattahoochee HS (4 Teams)
Creekview HS
Eastside (Covington, GA) HS
Flowery Branch HS
Hebron Christian Academy
Lakeside HS (2 Teams)
Locust Grove HS
Lovett School
Marist (2 Teams)
North Cobb HS
Owensboro HS (KY)
River Ridge HS (2 Teams)
Roswell HS (2 Teams)
Westminster
Wheeler HS (2 Teams)

I would like to have 42 teams (which = 7 divisions of 6). So, we will take up to 5 more teams before registration closes. Due to the flooding, no late fee will be imposed on Georgia teams.

Thanks,

Norcross was hoping to have registered but our organization may have been thrown off with the days off of school.

Please save 2 of the open spots for us.

Central Gwinnett will definitely be bringing one team. Can you please reserve one of the spots for us?

One more quick update...

Centennial HS's coach has just contacted me about a slot. So, provided that a sponsor (not a student/player) from Norcross contacts me before another coach/sponsor does, about their desire for the two remaining slots, then the field is closed with 42 teams and I will start a waiting list. Otherwise, if I receive stuff from another team's coach/sponsor (in the mail or e-mail) then I have to accept the other team(s) over Norcross.

Of course, as soon as I hear anything I will post again...

The Twentieth Annual Walton Academic Challenge has now ended.

Centennial won this year's championship (becoming only the 2nd Georgia School to win our tournament). Brookwood A (the only other Georgia school who has won a championship here) finished in second. Chattahoochee A finished third and Central Gwinnett finished in fourth.

I would like to thank all the teams for participating in today's tournament! I hope that everybody had a great time!

We are looking forward to hosting the Twenty-first Annual Walton Academic Challenge next year on Saturday, October 3, 2010 (provided that the SAT is not going to be given on that day, of course).

Thanks,

Matt Edelstein
