Spirit of St. Louis Warm-up at Parkway Central HS Results

Hello everyone. I held a 16-team tournament at Parkway Central high school in suburban St. Louis yesterday (Chesterfield, Missouri, to be precise), which was run with official untimed NAQT rules on NAQT IS-89A. The teams were divided into two brackets of eight with a round robin in each. After lunch, the field was divided into a championship bracket of six teams, a middle bracket of six teams, and a bottom bracket of four (although the entire bottom bracket dropped out).

After ten rounds, St. Louis Priory was 10-0 and Parkway Central A was 9-1, requiring an advantaged final. Parkway Central A surged from behind to win both games of the final and the championship.

First final game: Parkway Central A 275, Priory 185
Second final game: Parkway Central A 325, Priory 130

Villa Duchesne and Parkway Central B were tied for third and thusly tied for the last HSNCT qualifying spot, requiring a one game playoff between the two. Villa Duchesne won a competitive match, earning their first-ever nationals bid.

Third-place game: Villa Duchesne 285, Parkway Central B 230

Trophies were awarded to the top three teams and a selection of books offered to the top eight individual scorers. Full scores and stats will be posted as soon as I receive the SQBS files and can get results posted.

A couple of things to note:

Individual prizes were awarded based on standings after the prelims, and did not include the games that followed.

Parkway Central B finished 4th by losing to Villa Duchesne, not 6th as the standings file implies. Playoff rankings were determined by a team's record again other teams in the championship bracket, not overall record, hence the discrepancy.

Finally, I need to thank all of my friends from the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance who helped with the tournament yesterday: Sean Phillips, Matt Chadbourne, Charlie Dees and Charles Hang (and Charles' scorekeeper). Also, I need to thank Abdullah and Mohammed from SLU who helped yesterday and gave me a lot of encouragement throughout.
