SCOP Novice 4 (October 2013-January 2014)

Postby TheDoctor » Tue Jun 04, 2013 3:35 am

SCOP's fourth novice tournament will be available for mirroring from mid-October 2013 through the end of January 2014.

SCOP is written by a conglomerate of writers (most from Illinois), and is head edited by Brad Fischer and myself. Previous years' questions are posted in the archive.

The set has eleven rounds of 20/20 and a half packet of replacement questions. The set follows the following distribution per round:

4/4 Literature
5/5 Science (including 1/1 Noncomputational Math)
5/5 History (including 1/1 Current Events or Geography)
2/2 Religion and Mythology
1/1 Philosophy and Social Science
2/2 Fine Arts
1/1 Trash

The mirror fee outside of Illinois is $10 per team (including house teams). We offer a $1/team discount for complete statistics (including individual statistics and preferably in SQBS format with round report enabled) posted promptly after your tournament. There is an additional discount of $2/team if you choose to scan and e-mail or snail mail your raw scoresheets to the editors for the calculation of conversion statistics by topic.

In Illinois, this set will be used exclusively for the IHSSBCA Novice Tournaments, which will be held in October. If you are in Illinois and are interested in hosting an IHSSBCA Novice site, please let me know.

Prospective mirror hosts, or anyone with questions about the set, may contact me at strey.k.a@gmail.com.

The set has been through its first round of mirrors. A few typos have been addressed for future mirrors. Conversion rates are high across the board; if you're looking for a novice set for any tournament through early 2014, please keep us in mind.

Repeated attempts to contact Virginia Tech about their proposed mirror have met with no response, so I am assuming that that tournament will not happen. That area is again open for a mirror.

Kristin,I'm really sorry no one got back to you. I was not aware we had reserved it, and I hope you're able to find a mirror. I'll work with our leadership to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Our last mirror has been played. The questions are now cleared for public discussion. The set will be available soon in the tournament database. Thank you to everyone who hosted and played.

Apparently this got overlooked and nobody approved the set upload for an entire month... sorry about that! It's now available here. Thanks to David Reinstein for emailing us about his Masonic uploads, or otherwise it may have gone unnoticed even longer!
