IMSANITY 4 is looking for mirrors

Post by Dominator »

The fourth iteration of the housewrite of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, IMSANITY 4, is looking for mirrors. Once again, our goal with IMSANITY is a tournament which aims to be regular difficulty in the sense of high conversion overall but not afraid to ask harder answer lines in reasonable moderation. Questions, especially bonuses, will feel unique, but more due to creative themes and answer lines than to increased difficulty. IMSANITY has sought to be a leader with noncomputational math questions.

The feedback we got from teams who played last year's tournament was almost exclusively positive, as teams consistently told us that they liked our choice of early clues and third bonus parts. We aim to continue that tradition in this year's iteration.

We plan to have the set ready for late fall tournaments, which I arbitrarily call November 1 or later. If you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected].

A sample packet from last year's set is attached.

Noah:

Bloomington (IL) (It's next to Normal, IL) would love to host a mirror of this year's IMSAnity set. By far and away, this has always been one of the best sets we have seen in competition. Not only has this set been challenging, which has, in turn, made us a better team come playoff time, it's also a heck of a lot of fun due to its more unique and original question lines.

What is the distro for this set? Is it the same as last year's IMSANITY?

Nothing is definite in Georgia yet, although I have been talking with a couple hosts there. I will try to finalize those plans and get back to you.

It took a little while to work everything out, but yes, Woodland HS in Cartersville will run the set on October 19.

This mirror ended up being cancelled on short notice and replaced almost instantly with a Norcross mirror on December 7. There are two more unscheduled mirrors likely to be announced soon. If your region does not have a mirror yet, please contact me soon.

A new southern California mirror has been added for the end of this month.

There may have been a mirror last month in Texas, but I have not yet gotten confirmation. If anyone knows, please pass that information on to me.

There is a summer open mirror we may be able to announce soon. If you're in an area that has not heard the set yet and likes summer quizbowl (I'm looking at you New Jersey), please email me.
