This effort has been merged into FACTS, a collaboration between CSW and TJ.
Four years after JAMES, the TJHSST Quizbowl team is excited to announce that RYAN, a 14-packet question set, will be available for mirrors during the 2017-2018 season. RYAN is written by members of the TJHSST Quizbowl team at regular high school difficulty, and will be head-edited by Ryan Golant of Princeton University.
This set will be available for mirrors starting September 1, 2017 all the way through spring 2018.
Tossups will be 5-6 lines and powermarked. RYAN’s distribution, identical to that of Yale’s BHSAT XXVI, will be as follows:
4/4 Literature (1/1 American 1/1 British 1/1 European 1/1 World)
4/4 Science (1/1 Biology, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, 1/1 Other Science)
4/4 History (1/1 American, 2/2 European/British, 1/1 World/Ancient)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual, 1/1 Auditory, 1/1 Other Arts—opera, film, ballet, architecture, and design)
2/2 Beliefs (1/1 Religion, 1/1 Mythology)
1/1 Thought (.5/.5 each Social Science and Philosophy)
2/2 Modern World (1/1 split approximately 2:1 between Geography and Current Events, 1/1 Pop Culture/Trash)
RYAN’s mirror fee will be $10 for each non-house team in attendance. For high schools that have not hosted a tournament in the past five years, the fee will be reduced to $8. If you are interested in mirroring this set, email us at [email protected] with your school name, location, and mirror date (tentative is fine), and we’ll confirm your request shortly.
