Charter Oak Scholastic Open

Post by romeokar »

Dear Coaches,

I am pleased to announce the return of the Charter Oak quiz bowl competition. This year's tournament will be held on Sunday, January 27th 2013 at Middlesex Middle School in Darien, CT. We will be using NAQT's MS-05 question set. The tournament will likely be similar to last years: 5 - 6 preliminary rounds followed by a single elimination playoff. We will have trophies for the top teams and scorers. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

A few schools have committed thus far, but we are accepting registrations. For more information and or to register your school, please email me at [email protected].

Good to see that this event is happening again. Here's hoping for an even larger, more successful event with plenty of teams taking the trip to MSNCT afterwards. Let me know if you need any help talking to high school coaches so as to get more interest from "feeder schools".

It's standard procedure for tournament hosts to maintain a running field in their post (i.e. edit a list of attending teams into the first post and edit the post each time there is a major change to the teams list), so that attending teams know who they're facing. Would you mind doing that?

As of now, we have three schools confirmed, and interest from seven others.

The confirmed schools are:

Middlesex Middle School, CT (4 teams)
Boston College High School, MA (2 teams)
Warren TWP MS, NJ (2 Teams)
Adams MS, CT
North Canaan Elementary, CT (Possibly 2 teams)
Western MS, CT

and interest from:

Dalton School, NY
Ben Franklin MS, NJ
Lakeside MS, NJ
Stillman Elementary, NJ
The Lee H. Kellogg School CT

Keep those registrations coming! We'll see everyone in January!

Hi Ken,
Does Boston College HS also have a middle school section? Just curious. I'll talk this up on Saturday at our History Bowl in White Plains - we have 4 middle/elementary teams coming. Do you need help with buzzers - NHBB can supply however many you need, just let me know.

BC High does have middle school teams, they sent 2 last year.

Thank you for your gracious offer on buzzers; I'll let you know if we need any.

We held our first History Bee yesterday. A lot of our quiz bowl players participated. They seemed to have enjoyed it!
