CMST 5?

Post by Stained Diviner »

For each of the past four years, the quizbowl community has collaborated to produce a very good set which has been used at several tournaments around the country. If Collaborative Middle School Tournament 5 is going to happen, somebody trustworthy and experienced is going to have to agree to be the head editor. It will need to be somebody (or a team of people) who is willing and able to edit questions written by new writers and also willing and able to write questions that other people don't write (either because there aren't enough writers or because writers flake out). If you want to be that person, post here.

Though NAQT now does a good job producing middle school questions, there is still a market for CMST. Some circuits already use all the NAQT sets and want to schedule more tournaments, and some circuits want an independent set with slightly longer questions and less trash than NAQT sets. If CMST does not happen this year, it will be for the simple reason that producing sets takes a lot of time and effort, and there may not be people willing to put in the time and effort to pull it off. It's not the end of the world if that's the case, and I'm in no position to complain if it is.

Note that now is not the time for somebody to volunteer to write 10/10 or 20/20. Now is the time to find out if anybody who is trustworthy and experienced wants to be the head editor.
