It's taken a little while to iron out building details, but the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to finally announce that we will be hosting our first middle school tournament, Thomas Jefferson Middle School Tournament (TJMST), on Sunday December 13th, 2015!

TJMST will use a National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) middle school set, and further information on the set distribution can be found here. As we hope to encourage participation from a number of new schools in the area, we will go over the basic rules of Quizbowl for novice teams in the morning. The field cap for TJMST is currently 20 teams. Teams will be limited to 6 people at maximum, and schools planning to bring more than 6 students must register multiple teams. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams are also allowed to have fewer than 4 people.

Logistics:
Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:00 AM. We will explain the rules and regulations for new Quizbowl teams, and basic breakfast foods will be provided. The tournament will be held at TJHSST (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312). Our tournament is set for December 13th if weather permits, but if not, we will reschedule for a later date when the time arrives.

Fees:
Registration fees per team:
$55 for schools that regularly participate in pyramidal quizbowl
$35 for schools that are new to pyramidal quizbowl
$10 for individual students without school teams

Discounts:
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set, defined as having at least 8 working buzzers

Registration fees can be paid through cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. While payment the day of the tournament is preferable, mailing it in advance will work as well. Anything sent via mail should be addressed to TJHSST Quizbowl c/o John Laffey at 6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA, 22312.

Affiliation:
The top teams will qualify for NAQT's Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT) held at the end of the year.
