Clearinghouse for Random Packet Announcements

If you'd like to read a packet on the IRC, post here so we don't take up lots of threads. I am writing an impossible trash packet that will be read tonight or tomorrow.

Packet will be read tonight at 10:30 EST/9:30 CST. Parental discretion advised.

EDIT: I scrapped the bonus idea and will be doing like a speedcheck 2 line tossup related to the tossups. This turned into basically writing 20 more questions for a total of 85 questions. I'll post the packet after the weekend.

In honor of the Vikings' loss earlier today, I wrote a 40 short tossup trash packet. I can read it after the fantasy draft/Night of Champions tonight or some other time.

I'm writing a random assortment of twenty questions with either clues or answerlines that I like. Most answers will be pretty accessible by the end, some of the clues will be absurd. I'll read it tonight if I finish it soon or tomorrow if I don't.

This happened. Rob Carson reigned supreme.

I will post my packet later tonight (Rob Carson won, despite a fantastic surge by Matt Weiner who tied Dylan Minarik for second place). I also wrote a SNL themed packet involving material from the last five years (and a couple things slightly earlier, effectively the time Bill Hader was on the show). It will be very hard and very slapdash. To assure my creditors, I will also write HSAPQ questions tonight.

Are you reading the SNL pack tonight?

I'll claim tomorrow night for an all tossup trash packet following the CO trash distribution on answerlines that interest me. I don't have any sort of sense of trash difficulty, but I predict good buzzes on most questions.

Since MFT playtesting is happening tonight, show up in #quizbowl at 8:15 PST if you want to play my packet. If playtesting is done by then, we'll start immediately, if not, we'll wait it out and start whenever it finishes.

An American history textbook I'm reviewing has a bunch of "Key People" listed as apparent study (?) points. I'm amused at the relative obscurity of some (well, many) of these key people, so I am writing a fairly simplistic 50 question or so packet about it. Each question will be on a person identified in the book as "key" and it will be very hard. To be read either tonight or tomorrah.

I'm writing a packet of common-link lit tossups, mostly ill-advised ones. I'll read it tonight at 11:00 EDT if it's finished by then, and tomorrow at the same time if it's not.

Rob won the common link packet, as is his wont.

I am writing a lit packet of "postwar lit" (late 1940's-1950's stuff, although probably a few outliers). It will mostly be genre stuff, though, like sci-fi, children's, and pulpish. I guess it's hard, I don't know. I'll read it when it's done.

I'm writing a packet of 20 power-marked tossups (mostly TV and movies) for my family this Thanksgiving. I can read it this weekend.

I will be writing a vanity packet of 20 to 30 Broadway/musical theater tossups to be read online some time in later December once I'm on break. Difficulty will be "hard". Will certainly keep people updated when it's done and ready to be read.

I have a short, 40-tossup vanity Trash packet that I've read to a few groups of Ontario quizbowlers. I don't have plans to read them in IRC or anything, but I am happy to post the packet if people are interested. I should note, however, that the packet has some CanCon, including a little bit of Canadian meta.

Edited to attach packet

I plan on reading the "Barbarians" packet I've been sitting on for a while tomorrow in the IRC - probably around 6PM Eastern Time, but I can do whatever time is convenient for people. If people want to stick around, I can also read 60 fairly difficult world history questions I've had for a while.

My Broadway/musical theater vanity packet will be ready to read this Sunday at 9 PM, in the IRC channel #quizbowl. It'll be 20 tossups and 20 bonuses, so I'll keep score individually for tossups and we'll also see how high a PPB the room can get.

The "Barbarians" packet was read. Results were as follows:

Jeff Hoppes: 10/0/1 (145)
Matt Jackson: 1/1/3 (10)
Eric Mukherjee: 2/0/0 (30)
Patrick Liao: 2/0/2 (20)
Auroni Gupta: 2/1/1 (35)
Matt Bollinger (off the last two questions): 1/0/0 (15)

I didn't track the PPB of the room, but I'm pretty sure it was north of 25, thanks to contributions from Rob Carson, Doug Graebner, and Matt Lafer.

EDIT: I noticed a small error in one of the tossups, so I fixed it and re-uploaded the packet.

EST, yes. And the potential lateness-causing Thing has been cleared away, so there should be no timeliness issues!

This happened. The room got 27 PPB.

Susan Ferrari: 1/1/1 = 20 (sorry about the timing thing!)
Drew Scheeler: 1/0/0 = 15
Dan Passner: 1/0/1 = 10
Anderson Wang: 0/1/0 = 10
Saul Hankin: 1/0/2 = 5
Lawrence Simon: 0/0/2 = -10

I've attached the packet for posterity. Hope everyone had fun!

I wrote a horror(ish) movie packet that was just played. It skewed modern enough that even Will Nediger scored points. But Rob Carson reigned supreme once again on my questions.

Since not many people took part, I can read it on the IRC again sometime if there is interest.

In that vein, I'm writing a packet of dumb common links on art film, which I'm planning on reading tomorrow at 10:00 Eastern. Even Carsten Gehring should be able to score points on it.
