Northeastern University Trash Tournament 12/9/2017

Post by Remijg »

Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that Northeastern University will be hosting a trash tournament December 9th.

Fees:
Base fee: $100
Buzzer discount: -$5
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way

We are currently capping the tournament at 10 teams but we will hopefully be able to expand.

If you are interested in attending, please e-mail [email protected] with your school name, the amount of teams you plan on bringing, and whether or not you can bring buzzers.

Please pay in cash or bring checks made out to "Northeastern University c/o Northeastern University Quiz Bowl" the day of the tournament as we are unable to collect payment beforehand.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the tournament!

How many rounds will this be (expected) / what's the distribution / is this open, etc?

Assuning the answer to the last one is yes, I'm interested in coming, but $100 is a lot for a trash tournament.

We have changed the fees to the following:
Base fee: $80
Buzzer discount: -$5
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way
Staffer: -$10 (one per team only)

We are expected to have at least 7 rounds. We are still writing packets so it could be more. Anyone is welcome to play.

Can we get an update on the field and the number of packets available? A cohort of Harvard players are potentially interested. (I'll email when we officially register.)

We have 3 teams from Olin, 2 teams from Brandeis, and 1-2 teams from Tufts so far. Therefore, we have space for 3-4 teams. We will have ten packets so we will be having ten rounds of play. If anyone is interested, please message [email protected] or [email protected].

Schedule:
Check-in and breakfast: 9am We will provide Dunkin' Donuts
First round: 9:30am
We will complete five rounds before lunch. However, if we feel that it's getting late, we might move it up in the schedule.
You will have an hour for lunch. Lunch will not be provided but there are many places in the area that people can go to.
After lunch, we will finish the remaining rounds.

We'll be meeting in Curry Student Center, which is # 50 on the map. For parking, feel free to find any street parking (there are meters) in the area, or if you'd prefer to park in a garage, you can park in Renaissance parking garage (# 62 on the map). We plan to start the tournament at 9:30 AM so please check in with your teams at 9:00 AM in the Ballroom in Curry Student Center (take the elevator to the second floor, we will be in the really big room on that floor by the piano). Please bring payment with you in the form of cash or check as we will be collecting this when you check in. One important thing to note is that we will be subtracting your parking costs from your registration fees because we know that Boston parking can be quite expensive.

If anyone wakes up and decides they want to play a lovely trash tournament, our team has been reduced to two people by the plague and finals. Join us whenever, no worries about the registration fee! (PM me or just reply in this thread.)
