There is a (surprising) potential interest from Kings Park for this tournament... I'll let you know within the next two days if we decide to come down or not

Questions are created in-house. I should have included that in the initial post.

Kings Park won't be able to attend, I am sorry... We were looking at the prospect of a February break trip, but I'm the only one able to go so it's not gonna happen.

Thread bump--four spots left (with, admittedly, a couple of teams teasing us with possibly coming). The QuizBowl world is full of flirts!

Re: Results for Belles' Bowl VI

Post by ProsperoSMS »

Thanks to all the teams who came out today for the Belles' Bowl. We just concluded a fun day. Here are preliminary results, with stats to be posted later.

After five preliminary rounds, the teams were seeded for single-elimination playoffs:
#1 Raleigh Charter A
#2 Early College--Guilford
#3 Enloe A
#4 Collegiate
#5 Raleigh Charter B
#6 Chapel Hill
#7 Green Hope
#8 Enloe B
#9 Raleigh Charter C
#10 Richmond Sr.
#11 Early College Academy A
#12 Raleigh Charter D
#13 Gaston Day
#14 Early College Academy B
**Note: Thomasville and Nash Central both left at lunch, so the top two teams got byes in the first round.

Quarterfinals:
Raleigh Charter A Vs. Enloe B
Guilford Vs. Richmond Sr.
Enloe A Vs. Chapel Hill
Collegiate Vs. Raleigh Charter B

Semifinal:
Raleigh Charter A Vs. Raleigh Charter B
Guilford Vs. Enloe A

Final:
Raleigh Charter B Vs. Enloe A

Champion of Belles' Bowl VI: Raleigh Charter B
Our bracketology is pretty much a non-science, as teams only have five prelim rounds to base it on, but Raleigh Charter B is the "lowest seed" to ever win the Belles. They certainly played well, and we wish them good luck with continued matches.

Thanks again to all who came this year. And, save the date: Belles' Bowl VII will be 25 February 2012.

Cheers,
Hugh Davis

Soon (and I know that's not a good answer)--we had a couple of slow downs Saturday (for which I am sorry, but I thought it mostly went okay), and one involved an effort to post the stats in real time. I'll get them posted shortly.

Yeah, it was run very well. One of the teams that left early had 8 students with them. I'm not sure if they were just late in signing up or they just had students that were watching. Nonetheless, a great and well-run tournament. I hope I get to go again next year.

Are the bonus conversion stats right? I know bonus conversion was low all day, but these seem especially low. Some artifact of trying to shoehorn the format into SQBS?

I can only say, without going back through them, that I *think* they are right. There were a couple of different hands helping enter them, so I apologize if we created some confusion and entered anything erroneously. However, I think, in the end, all was tabulated correctly. At the same time, I know that Clay was fighting some with SQBS, so that might account for some of it.
